Today, I’m introducing a hearty restaurant I found in Seomyeon: Gang Galbitang Seomyeon. I had such a satisfying meal this time! Let me share everything one by one in detail.

You can use the Blue Parking Lot! Its address is 399-8 Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu, and I heard you get 30 minutes of parking support when you spend ₩20,000 or more~ Parking in Seomyeon can be surprisingly difficult, so this was really convenient.

## Galbitang broth simmered for over 48 hours

Gang Galbitang is a handmade galbitang (beef short-rib soup) specialist. I heard they use broth simmered for more than 48 hours! They also boil the ribs themselves every morning. From classic galbitang to a spicy version, there are options ready to go, and they also sell galbi noodles made with medium noodles delivered directly from Jeju. There are filling options like galbi gukbap (rice served in beef-rib soup), too.

## Two orders of galbitang, classic and spicy

I ordered Gang Galbitang and Spicy Gang Galbitang. I added noodles, too! Even though they were both galbitang, the broths tasted different, which was nice. One was light and clean, while the other was spicy and warming. It was a great combination to share between two people.

## Warm seating and solo seats

Once inside, I found the seating neatly arranged. There were lots of wood-toned tables, giving the whole place a warm feel. The dining area was also quite orderly, and it left a strong impression of being clean.

I liked these one-person seats more than I expected. Eating alone can sometimes make you feel a little self-conscious, you know. These seats take away some of that pressure. That made it feel like a good restaurant for a solo meal. It also seemed ideal for having a quick meal and getting straight on with your day.

One thing that caught my eye while eating was a screen inside the restaurant. It showed Gang Galbitang being prepared as well as meals being packed to go. I liked that there were plenty of options, from enjoying it hot in the restaurant to having it at home as a meal kit.

## Using the self-serve banchan bar

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon has a self-serve banchan (Korean side dishes) bar.

There was kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), kimchi, and several other side dishes, and it was nice and tidy to serve yourself only what you wanted. Crisp side dishes are essential with gukbap or galbitang, aren’t they? A spoonful of hot galbitang with a side dish was just perfect~ There was also water and cups on one side, plus a spot where you could have coffee. You could get more side dishes without feeling awkward, so it felt comfortable even when dining alone.

## The long-awaited clean-tasting Gang Galbitang

Finally, my Gang Galbitang arrived. It came piping hot in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), and just looking at it made me feel warmed through. The ribs were quite generously sized, too. The broth was fairly clear, so I was looking forward to its clean flavor.

Doesn’t the galbi look appetizing? You can see the ribs above the broth, along with green onion and other ingredients. The ttukbaegi was heated well, making it easy to enjoy the meal warm to the very end.

When I picked up a rib, there was a generous amount of meat on it. With just a light touch of my chopsticks, the meat came away tenderly. Aren’t the meat and broth the important parts of galbitang? I was happy with both, haha.

## The broth of Spicy Gang Galbitang

This time, it was Spicy Gang Galbitang. Compared with the classic version, even the color of the broth was completely different. The red broth looked spicy and warming at a glance. If you like spicy food, this menu would be a good choice, too.

Looking into the broth, you can see ribs and other ingredients together. I like classic galbitang too, but I really liked this spicy broth as well. It seemed especially well suited to anyone wanting a spicy, warming broth in the morning or for a hangover.

After a spoonful of the broth, I felt instantly refreshed. Rather than being aggressively spicy, it was more warm and pleasantly spicy. It goes well with rice, and it works nicely with the medium noodles, too.

## You absolutely have to add the medium noodles

This is what I especially want to mention from this visit: the medium noodle add-on. You absolutely have to get it!!!!!!! I heard the noodles are delivered directly from Jeju! They are the kind mainly used for meat noodle soup. They didn’t get soggy and were really delicious! Adding them gave the galbitang a completely different look, right? With noodles in the hot broth, it became so much more filling.

The rib meat and noodles made a really good combination. The noodles blended well into the broth, and having them with the meat made the meal satisfying. Perhaps because they were medium noodles, they had a pleasantly firm bite. I could kind of see why there is a separate galbi noodle menu.

## Galbitang needs rice and pickles, too

Rice is a must with galbitang. Add the pickles, and a whole bowl of rice disappears in no time. The side dishes were tasty, so I kept reaching for them.

The side dishes were truly delicious. One was chorokjam jangajji, pickled Chinese artichoke, and I loved its crisp texture. Eating it with the galbitang broth really woke up my appetite. I think tasty little side dishes matter more than you might expect. So, so delicious... I was satisfied.

## A Seomyeon breakfast available from 9:20 a.m.

This was one thing I especially liked here. They open at 9:20 a.m. You can have a hearty meal in Seomyeon from the morning. On a day when you need hangover food or are craving broth first thing in the morning, a bowl of galbitang seems like it would really fill you up.

## A Seomyeon gukbap restaurant good for solo dining

There are solo seats, so it is easy to visit alone! Eating alone at a gukbap restaurant can feel awkward for no reason sometimes, right? The setup made that feel less daunting, haha. You can also order at a kiosk, making a solo visit convenient. Keep this in mind if you are looking for somewhere to eat alone.

When you are tired like these days, this is exactly the kind of food you start craving. A spoonful of hot broth, a tender bite of rib, and then rice on top of that—it fills you right up. I stayed satisfied for quite a while after the meal. If you are looking for gukbap in Seomyeon, this is a place worth stopping by at least once.
