I was looking for a decent café near Seoul's Children's Grand Park and ended up at Wonz Coffee, near Guui Station. It's the kind of coffee shop where a national team barista roasts and pulls the shots himself, and I heard regulars keep coming back, so I was curious what the coffee would actually taste like. Wonz Coffee is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 5 of Guui Station on Line 2, so it wasn't hard to find. It sits in a residential area near Guui intersection, which looked like a quiet spot to enjoy coffee, so I decided to check it out.

## Beans roasted by a national champion barista

What made me curious about Wonz Coffee was that the owner, who's been devoted to coffee since he was 17 in high school, makes the coffee himself. He was a national team barista in 2018, roasting and brewing everything himself — as someone who loves coffee, I was even more curious what it would taste like.

The americano is ₩4,900, with a ₩1,000 discount for takeout and a ₩1,500 discount if you bring your own tumbler. If you're drinking in the café, refills are available too — a nice perk if you want to linger over your coffee.

After ordering, I looked around the café and noticed a whole wall covered in instant photos. You could really feel that this place has had regulars coming for a long time.

I also spotted a Dutch coffee (cold-drip coffee) setup brewing away, and a variety of products for sale to take home.

You can bring pets and kids along, and there are board games available inside — so it seemed like a good spot to spend some relaxed time with friends or family rather than just grabbing a coffee and leaving.

I'd already eaten a meal before coming, so I skipped dessert and ordered the National Team Special Americano and mango bingsu. Staff brought the order straight to our table.

What I found unique about Wonz Coffee was that, wanting to give guests a special experience, they serve the espresso and water separately. They explained you swirl the crema floating on top and pour it into the water yourself. Serving the water and espresso apart made the whole process of drinking the coffee feel a bit special, and best of all, you can control the shot amount yourself to match your own taste.

And most importantly — the taste! One sip and it was better than I expected. The flavor was rich yet clean, the kind of coffee that anyone who genuinely loves coffee would want to try at least once. If it were closer to home, I think I'd be a regular.

I also tried the mango bingsu we ordered together. Instead of piling all the toppings on at once like a typical bingsu, they served the snowflake milk ice, mango syrup, and coconut jelly toppings separately.

I tried the snowflake milk ice on its own first — it had a soft, nutty milk flavor that was really nice. Being able to add as much mango syrup and coconut jelly as I wanted was a great touch.

## Full even on a weekday afternoon: is Wonz Coffee worth a visit?

Even though I visited on a weekday afternoon, the café was almost fully seated by the time I left. Plenty of customers were enjoying coffee inside, but takeout and delivery orders also kept coming in, keeping the staff pretty busy.

It was special to be able to try coffee made from house-roasted beans by a national team barista, and there was a good variety of things to enjoy besides just coffee — bingsu, baked cookies, and more. Since I'd already eaten this time, I didn't get to try the other desserts, but next time I'd like to try the scones or other bakery items alongside the coffee.

If you're looking for a café with great coffee near Seoul's Children's Grand Park, or a slightly special coffee experience around Konkuk University, Wonz Coffee is worth a visit. I'd especially recommend it if you love specialty coffee or want to properly enjoy coffee brewed by hand by a barista.
