## In short

Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Exit 2 of Omokgyo Station in Yangcheon, Seoul, where Korean pork is grilled over charcoal briquettes. Three cuts came to one table — wangsogeum pork belly (15,900 won), seolhwa kkodeulsal jowl (17,900 won) and juljuli teukmoksal pork neck (15,900 won) — alongside flat bibim noodles and charcoal fried rice, and the steak-tender pork neck was the most memorable. For anyone in Mokdong who wants charcoal-grill atmosphere rather than an ordinary grill house, Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong fits.

Today I visited Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong, which I found while searching for a good Korean BBQ spot in Mokdong. Most pork belly places these days use charcoal briquettes or gas burners, but this place, true to its name, grills meat over traditional charcoal (yeontan) — so I was a little excited before I even walked in!

The exterior really caught my eye. The sign stood out nicely.

## Retro dining room and the eco-friendly charcoal briquettes

The inside of Gamgol Yeontanjip has a retro vibe that fits the charcoal-grill concept really well. The floral chair-back covers caught my eye haha. There were plenty of tables, and the space was spacious and clean!

> The charcoal briquettes used at Gamgol Yeontanjip are apparently patented, eco-friendly briquettes with no worries about harmful gases.

I usually prefer eating several different cuts together rather than just pork belly — things like pork neck or specialty cuts — so when I saw the menu, there were so many things I wanted to try that I ended up ordering quite a lot.

The water bottle was so cute. It was heotgae tea (Japanese raisin tree tea), nutty and delicious. It reminded me of the Del Monte bottles at my grandmother's house haha.

The basil ssamjang (dipping sauce) in the middle was way more delicious than I expected. It paired perfectly with the meat! With high hopes, we ordered the wangsogeum pork belly, seolhwa kkodeulsal, juljuli teukmoksal, flat bibim noodles, and charcoal fried rice!

## Charcoal wangsogeum pork belly, 15,900 won

The charcoal wangsogeum (rock salt) pork belly at Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong is ₩15,900 and comes served in an earthenware pot. I prefer pork belly with a bit of thickness rather than too thin, so this was great. Be sure to grill the kimchi along with it too!

## Seolhwa kkodeulsal pork jowl, 17,900 won — how chewy is it?

Seolhwa kkodeulsal was ₩17,900, the most expensive of the three cuts. The name itself made me curious about the texture. It's a cut with a distinctly different chew than regular pork belly or pork shoulder. I love specialty cuts with a satisfying bite like this, so I really enjoyed it.

## Juljuli teukmoksal pork neck, 15,900 won: the best of the three

Juljuli teukmoksal was ₩15,900, and the cut I enjoyed most at Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong. The pork neck was as tender as steak. They said since it's steak-grade, it's fine to grill it only about 80% through. This was my favorite... turns out this place is actually known for its pork neck! Grilling it over charcoal in particular added a subtle smoky flavor to the neck meat's clean taste, which I loved.

## Sides at Gamgol Yeontanjip: flat bibim noodles and charcoal fried rice

Flat bibim noodles, ₩6,900. The savory flavor of the meat paired really well with the tangy noodles — a great side to order while eating meat.

Charcoal fried rice, ₩6,900. I was more excited for this than the meat, honestly — it's so clever that it comes shaped like a piece of charcoal 😆. It had diced radish kimchi for some bite, plus egg, bracken fern, and cheese... it all went so well together!

After finishing the meal, we had omija (schisandra berry) slush and plum slush for dessert. Perfect for cleansing the palate. A perfect ending haha.

## Is Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong worth it? Final verdict

These days there are so many good Korean BBQ places that they can start to feel similar. Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong stands out more thanks to its clear identity as a charcoal-grill restaurant. Grilling Korean pork over charcoal to enjoy the meat's natural flavor plus that smoky char, alongside a variety of side dishes, felt like a real strength.

If you're in Mokdong craving pork belly or pork neck but want something a bit different from an ordinary Korean BBQ spot, I'd recommend checking out Gamgol Yeontanjip Mokdong. Recommended as a great meat restaurant near Omokgyo :)
