## In short

Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch is a naengmyeon (cold noodle) and hanwoo bulgogi restaurant on Danjae-ro in Namil-myeon, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, carrying on the tradition of Seoul's original Ojangdong naengmyeon houses. Arriving around 7pm on an evening drive toward Cheongnamdae and Daecheong Dam, the writer ordered hanwoo saeng bulgogi (raw beef bulgogi) for two and hoe bibim naengmyeon topped with ganjaemi (skate) hoe, and the balance of the meat-juice vegetable broth with the crunchy skate was very good. For a tidy Korean spread after a Cheongnamdae or Daecheongho drive, Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch is a safe choice.

## Why stop here on a Cheongnamdae and Daecheong Dam drive?

I hadn't had proper hanwoo bulgogi and naengmyeon in a while, so I headed out toward Cheongnamdae and Daecheong Dam, part drive, part food mission. My destination was Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch, which carries on the tradition of Seoul's Ojangdong district. It sits in Goeun-ri, Namil-myeon, which makes it convenient to reach from Cheongnamdae or the Munui IC direction, and the large dedicated lot in front of the standalone building meant easy entry and parking even on a weekend evening.

When I arrived around 7pm, the spacious dining room was already lively with families and groups out for dinner. The 1st floor hall has high ceilings and generously spaced tables, so it felt calm rather than crowded. There's also a large separate room on the 2nd floor that looked well suited to bigger group gatherings.

I ordered hanwoo saeng bulgogi (raw beef bulgogi) for two and hoe bibim naengmyeon (cold noodles with skate hoe).

## Hanwoo raw beef bulgogi for two, grilled on a copper pan with broth

The hanwoo saeng bulgogi at Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch came on a copper-style hot pot grill. Not long after sitting down, neat side dishes arrived along with the raw beef bulgogi — and true to the description of using 1+ and 1++ grade hanwoo, the bright red meat's texture and marbling looked fresh at a glance.

![Plate of bright red raw hanwoo saeng bulgogi](https://img.superchart.com/images/cheongju-ojangdong-heungnamjip-hoebibim-naengmyeon/cheongju-ojangdong-heungnamjip-hoebibim-naengmyeon-07-edoov-900.webp)

The broth channel around the edge of the copper grill was generously filled with mushrooms, bok choy, scallions and glass noodles, and staff laid the bulgogi evenly across the raised center plate.

As the meat cooked on the grill, the juices that ran off naturally soaked into the vegetable broth, deepening its flavor. The bulgogi seasoning wasn't overly sweet or sharp — instead, a subtle savoriness from aged soy sauce complemented the meat's natural flavor without overpowering it.

There wasn't a single tough bite — the hanwoo went down smoothly — and pairing it with the glass noodles soaked in broth and the wilted scallions worked beautifully together. Even while eating through the meat, spoonfuls of the broth never got old, and I finished every last drop.

Midway through the bulgogi, I poured myself a cup of warm bone broth from the salad bar — its rich, savory ox bone flavor cleansed my palate nicely.

## How was the hoe bibim naengmyeon with ganjaemi (skate) hoe?

The hoe bibim naengmyeon I tried next really showed off Ojangdong Heungnamjip's identity. Thin, chewy noodles made from sweet potato starch came piled generously with aged skate hoe (raw skate) mixed with seasoning.

The chewy yet crunchy texture of the skate hoe balanced beautifully against the spicy, deep seasoning sauce. Wrapping a piece of the fatty bulgogi together with the noodles was also a fantastic combination.

## Is Ojangdong Heungnamjip Cheongju Branch worth the drive?

From the clean, deep flavor of the hanwoo saeng bulgogi to the hoe bibim naengmyeon that shows off years of craft, this was a meal with no flashy gimmicks — just solid, fundamentals-first execution.

If you're out driving toward Cheongnamdae or Daecheongho and want a proper Korean meal, this place won't disappoint.
