In short

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a Korean restaurant serving galbitang (short rib soup), gukbap and noodles about 318m from Exit 11 of Seomyeon Station in Busanjin, Busan. Craving hot broth after a workout, the writer ordered the spicy galbitang, which came in a clay pot with three big short rib bones plus mushrooms, scallions and a portion of noodles for one filling bowl. With a separate solo-dining zone and a self-serve bar, Gang Galbitang Seomyeon makes eating alone in Seomyeon easy.

Gang Galbitang menu: you even choose your spice level

The menu at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon covers a wide range of Korean dishes, from galbitang to gukbap (rice and soup) to noodles, so it was easy to pick whatever I felt like eating that day.

What stood out especially was that even for the same dish, you can choose your preferred spice level, so it seemed easy for both spice lovers and those who'd rather keep things mild to order comfortably.

Solo-dining zone and self-serve bar: why eating alone here is easy

One side of Gang Galbitang Seomyeon has a dedicated solo-dining zone for customers eating alone. Finding a place to eat alone in Seomyeon can sometimes feel a bit awkward, but having a space set up specifically for solo diners makes it much less of a hassle.

There's also a self-serve bar where you can grab side dishes or water yourself, which was convenient to use partway through the meal. Overall, the setup works well for a quick meal and is a solid choice whenever you're craving a hearty soup dish, making it an easy pick for lunch or dinner.

Table setting with the ordered spicy galbitang

Spicy galbitang bubbling in a clay pot

This time I wanted something a bit richer and spicier than the basic galbitang, so I ordered the spicy version. It came out bubbling in a stone pot, so I could tell right away it would be piping hot, and just the look of it — that fiery-spicy visual — really got my appetite going.

The broth wasn't simply spicy — it had the rich, deep flavor characteristic of galbitang with a spicy kick layered on top. Inside were the ribs along with mushrooms, scallions, and noodles, so the bowl felt quite hearty on its own, and with rice on the side it made for a completely satisfying meal.

Three short rib bones: how much meat do you get?

What stood out most was that there were three hefty rib bones inside, so the amount of meat was more generous than expected. There was a good amount of meat still attached, making it fun to pick apart piece by piece, and with the noodles and mushrooms added in, the overall portion felt very filling.

So it wasn't just a spicy-broth dish — the ribs themselves made for a substantial meal, and paired with rice, it was more than enough to leave me full.

When you need a hot, hearty meal in Seomyeon

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a good place to go when you're craving a hot, filling meal in Seomyeon. The generous portion of hefty rib bones meant I felt like I was properly getting my meat in, and with the spicy broth alongside noodles and rice, it was plenty filling for a full meal.

The solo-dining zone made it easy to visit alone without feeling awkward, and the menu went beyond galbitang to include gukbap and noodles, so there was plenty to choose from depending on your mood. Being able to pick your spice level also means both those who love a fiery kick and those who prefer something milder can order comfortably.

If you're trying to decide on lunch or dinner near Seomyeon Station, or craving a spicy soup like something for a hangover, this place is worth a visit. For me, the standout memory was the spicy galbitang, bubbling hot in its stone pot with those hefty rib bones :)
