Daeheung smash burger lunch with a coworker: Bored & Hungry Mapo

I went to the burger place that even showed up at Haha's birthday party on Running Man! 🍔

I heard it's a hot spot burger joint that won 1st place at an American burger competition, so I was super curious~! It started in Seongsu and now opened in Mapo too, so I went to check it out :)

Where is Bored & Hungry Mapo, and what are its hours and parking?

Bored & Hungry Mapo is on the 1st floor at 36 Gwangseong-ro 6-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, an easily accessible spot just a 3-minute walk from Daeheung Station Exit 4! It's open daily from 11:00 to 20:50. It's also close to Gwanghwacheon, Sogang University, and Sinchon, so it's convenient to visit from any of those areas haha.

The exterior itself is hip and hot-spot-like, with flashy graffiti and a monkey character covering the whole building — it really stood out. 👀✨

Inside, it's decorated with a black-and-white checkerboard floor that looks like something out of The Sims, plus vibrant artwork and quirky sculptures! The hip interior has an American retro feel, so it was fun just to look around. 🍔

How do the classic and peanut bacon cheeseburgers taste?

At Bored & Hungry Mapo, we ordered a classic cheeseburger and a peanut bacon cheeseburger, plus fries and corn ribs on the side. Both burgers come on a brioche bun with a smash patty.

1) Classic cheeseburger

I'm normally obsessed with cheeseburgers so I ordered the classic cheeseburger lol. It's a soft brioche bun with a freshly grilled smash patty, creamy classic cheese sauce, and American cheese all packed in.

The bun was soft and the patty had real juiciness, and with the American cheese added it was rich yet savory. Already want to eat it again..! 🤤 Since it's a handmade burger, it's chunky and thick, so it felt way more filling than a thin, pancake-like franchise burger lol.

2) Peanut bacon cheeseburger

This is what my coworker, a manager-level colleague who came with me, ordered! It also uses the soft brioche bun so it wasn't too heavy and had a great texture.

With bacon plus bacon jam layered in, the bacon flavor was taken to another level — anyone who loves bacon would love this one..! Add the juicy smash patty and savory peanut sauce and the flavor really comes alive. Just eating it made me feel like I was tasting America..! 🇺🇸

Sides at Bored & Hungry Mapo: fries, corn ribs and drinks

For sides at Bored & Hungry Mapo we ordered the seasoned fries and the store's No.1 menu item, corn ribs, and soda is available self-serve. The corn ribs come with 6 pieces of corn.

1) Seasoned fries 🍟

You know the type — orders fried chicken just for the cheese balls, orders a burger just for the fries... I'm not the only one, right?! Lol. The portion of fries was generous so we could eat as much as we wanted, and they were salty yet savory, very satisfying.

2) Corn ribs 🌽

This is the store's No.1 side menu, the corn ribs! There were as many as 6 pieces of corn, so the portion was generous. With sweet and salty seasoning added, it was addictively good — kept reaching for more lol.

3) Drinks 🥤

You can pour yourself a refreshing self-serve soda~!

Is Bored & Hungry Mapo worth a visit? ✨

The store design is so unique and hip that the whole time I was at Bored & Hungry, it felt like a weekend. Really got my mind refreshed haha. We chatted about overseas travel while eating, and there happened to be lots of foreign customers around too lol, so for a moment it felt like eating a burger in America.

You know how people say handmade burgers are secretly a diet food?! There's meat in it and the bun isn't too heavy, and the side portions were so huge we ended up packing some to go..!
