Cleansing balm for combination-oily skin: HEEDA Jirisan Charcoal

How did I use the HEEDA charcoal cleansing balm?

I have combination-oily, dehydrated skin and usually use a cleansing balm to remove makeup. This product had a rich solid-balm texture; I scooped some out with the spatula and rolled it over my face for about 30 seconds.

• I rolled the solid balm over my face so it melted with body heat.
• Once it melted like an oil, I added water to emulsify it.
• I rinsed several times to finish.

How did it feel after emulsifying and removing makeup?

It spread softly when I scooped it onto my hand, and when I added water while using it on my face, it emulsified into a gentle cleanse. I also felt that it removed makeup well.

Cleansing balms can sometimes leave an oily, slippery feeling, but it did not leave much residue in my experience. It seemed to suit my skin, as I had hardly any breakouts after using it.

What were the scent and texture like?

I noticed a charcoal scent when I first opened it. The product information says it uses natural true charcoal sourced from Jirisan, and the solid texture melts like an oil when it meets body heat.

Can it be used on the body, too?

The product information also describes a body-pack method: once a week, apply the solid balm to areas of concern, massage, emulsify with water, and rinse. For this review, I mainly used it to cleanse my face.

Who did it suit?

For me, someone concerned with both sebum and makeup cleansing, the gentle texture and moist finish worked well. Skin reactions vary, though, so if your skin is feeling sensitive, it is best to check its condition before using it.
