Gangneung Station gukbap restaurant for solo dining: Pick Up To You

Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You is a gukbap (Korean soup with rice) restaurant right behind Gangneung Station in Gangneung, Gangwon, open from 7am with a café-style interior of full-height windows. Eating alone on the last stop of a 2-night, 3-day Gangneung trip, the writer ordered spicy hangover gukbap, Korean beef bone gomtang, a tasting portion of jokbal (braised pig's trotters) and an americano, finding the soup rich and the jokbal tender. Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You turned out to be a better-than-expected final meal before a 5-hour drive home.

Dongdaegu Station steak restaurant date with shrimp aglio olio: Modak

Modak Texas Barbecue Dongdaegu Branch is a Texas-style barbecue and steak restaurant in the Dong-gu café street alley across from Dongdaegu Station in Daegu. The writer visited for weekend lunch with his wife and ordered the ghee-butter tenderloin steak and the shrimp aglio olio pasta, with a tableside fire show and free self-service marshmallow roasting after the meal. The steak at Modak Texas Barbecue was crisp outside, tender inside and rich with butter, making it a satisfying date course for a couple.
