Danyang valley pension with private barbecue: Soseonam Hwangto Village
In short
Soseonam Hwangto Village Guesthouse is a pension in Danyang, Chungbuk, about a three-minute walk from a valley stream and walking trail. I stayed in the studio-style Seokmun room, played in the stream, and used the private charcoal barbecue; after the weekend, it was a quiet place to rest. Take the easier route to the valley, as the harder path is rocky.

I spent a day at Soseonam Hwangto Village Guesthouse (소선암황토마을민박) in Danyang, Chungbuk. It was my first time properly looking around Danyang, and I was able to relax while enjoying the nearby valley stream and mountain scenery.
What are the directions, parking, and check-in times like?
The address is 38-44 Daejam 2-gil, Danseong-myeon, Danyang-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea. Signs along the way made it fairly easy to find, and the earthen building was a useful landmark on arrival. There is parking on the large lot directly in front of the pension. Check-in is after 3 PM, and check-out is before 11 AM.
Was the area around the pension good for a quiet rest?
The pension grounds were more spacious and pleasant than I expected. With mountains right in front and a valley stream nearby, I could feel close to nature. I visited after the weekend, so it was quiet and cozy.
How was the Seokmun room for two people?
The Seokmun room assigned to us was a studio-style room that suited two people well. It had one queen-size bed and air conditioning, while the earthen bricks and ondol-heated floor created a warm atmosphere. It was also a nice place to relax with a view of the green mountains.
I particularly liked the layout: the toilet and shower room were separated on opposite sides, with a sink in the middle. It was convenient to use the spaces separately depending on what we needed. The room was clean during my stay, and I did not see any bugs.
There was a microwave, dishes, and cooking utensils, and the refrigerator also had a freezer function. The room also had a rice cooker, electric kettle, and TV. The large dining table was good for a simple meal. I tend to use a lot of towels, so I asked for more; they brought plenty, which was convenient.
How far is the valley stream, and what is the route like?
The nearby valley stream and walking trail were about a three-minute walk away. We went to the stream to play in the water, which was clear and clean. There were easy and difficult routes to the stream; the difficult one had many rocks, so I recommend taking the easier route.
At the time of my visit, the water did not feel particularly deep. I thought it would also suit families visiting with children to play in the water.
What did the private barbecue cost, and how was it?
We also used the private barbecue. According to the original post, the facility fee is ₩20,000 for up to four people and ₩30,000 for five people, including charcoal, ignition charcoal, and a grill. The owner prepared the charcoal fire, so it was easy to grill the meat we brought.
We bought pork neck for charcoal grilling, and it came out crisp on the outside and moist inside, so we enjoyed it. Along with playing in the stream, it was one of the memorable parts of this stay.
Is there a place nearby for a light walk?
On the way back from the stream, I loosened up using the exercise equipment. The nearby Soseonam Healing Forest Trail is a good place for a light trek while taking in the forest scenery and fresh air.
I was satisfied that I could rest in a clean room, visit the nearby stream, and enjoy a charcoal barbecue. I also appreciated being given plenty of towels when I needed them, and I would like to stay here again when I return to Danyang.
