Sokcho restaurant with three sundubu styles compared: Jinsol Halmeoni

Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is a sundubu (soft tofu stew) specialist on Wonam Haksapyeong-gil in the Haksapyeong area of Sokcho, Gangwon. A family of parents, kids and an 18-month-old baby ordered two grilled hwangtae (dried pollack) set meals plus jjamppong sundubu, then swapped the sundubu that comes with each set for white sundubu and spicy sundubu to compare three bowls on one table. With a large car park and baby chairs, Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu was an easy stop for a family meal.

Three-generation family lunch at Gapyeong jjukkumi spot: Paldang

Paldang Jikhwa Bul Jjukkumi is a hot-plate jjukkumi (baby octopus) restaurant on Hanseo-ro in Seorak-myeon, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi. On a late Sunday lunch with grandparents and kids, we ordered two servings of cheolpan bul jju-sam (grilled octopus with pork) plus one pork loin cutlet, and filled up first at the self-serve buffet of tteokbokki, sundae and fried mandu. The smoky grilled flavor is unmistakable and the heat stays moderate, so Paldang Jikhwa Bul Jjukkumi is now a place we would return to for a whole-family lunch.
