Open-kitchen mackerel restaurant in Deulanguil, Daegu: Geumdeungeo

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch is a wood-fired grilled mackerel restaurant on the 2nd floor at 57 Deulan-ro, Suseong-gu, Daegu, where the fish is cured in nuruk salt (fermentation-starter salt). From seats facing the open kitchen, the writer watched the 420°C wood-fired oven and direct-flame grill at work and ordered wood-fired grilled mackerel for two at 36,000 won and direct-flame stir-fried pork for one at 19,000 won, with crisp skin, moist flesh and almost no fishy smell. Alternating the mild mackerel with the spicy pork made Geumdeungeo an easy choice for a meal out with parents.
