Solo gukbap and daytime soju in Jongno, Daegu: Hanwoojang
Hanwoojang is a 24-hour Korean beef soup restaurant on Jongno in Jung-gu, Daegu. On a weekday lunch alone, the writer ordered the special ttaro-gukbap (beef soup with ox blood curd, rice served on the side) for ₩12,000 with a bottle of soju, and when the broth ran low the staff brought another bowlful, enough to finish the leftover rice in it. With so many solo diners around, a midday drink at Hanwoojang draws no second looks.
