Jeungpyeong Korean restaurant for handmade tofu hot pot: Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip
In short
Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip is a Korean restaurant in Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk, serving handmade tofu dishes made with domestic soybeans. I had the ₩17,000 Gamnamu handmade tofu hot pot and charcoal-grilled spicy pork while the kids enjoyed traditional games and a postcard event during the wait. Verdict: A hearty, comforting meal with a gentle yet deep broth.

Maybe because the weather has suddenly become cooler lately, I keep craving steaming-hot broth. So I visited Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip, a spot that has been getting lots of word-of-mouth buzz in Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk!

- Address: Jeungpyeong-eup, Jeungpyeong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do
- Hours: 11:00–20:30

The hanok-style exterior was already something special, so as soon as we arrived, I found myself looking around everywhere.

But there was an actual persimmon tree in the yard! I immediately understood why the name includes “Gamnamujip,” meaning persimmon tree house. There was also a red mailbox by the entrance, and when I looked closely, I learned about an event where they mail the postcard you write today around September to October, when the persimmons ripen. We wrote postcards with the kids while waiting.
Parking and the Hanok Exterior
We could use the gravel parking area in the restaurant’s front yard. During meal times, there can be a wait, so people also parked along the road behind the restaurant.

Even the sign was remarkable. With a large eaves sign reading “Jeungpyeong Gamnamujip Handmade Tofu” and a hanok-style building with a tiled roof, it really stood out even from afar. It is the kind of place that makes you want to take photos just from the outside!

There was a wait on the day we visited, but the kids played traditional games while we waited.

Looking around the restaurant made even the waiting time enjoyable^^ The outdoor terrace seats would probably be nice on a sunny day, too. I thought it would make a good Jeungpyeong gathering spot! Dessert ice cream was also ready near the entrance. Don’t forget the fun of scooping it up^^
Hanok Interior Divided into Rooms
On an interior wall, there was a board of principles titled “We Will Not.” It carefully listed their promise to use only 100% domestic white soybeans and black soybeans instead of cheap imported beans, and to make tofu honestly without chemical additives even if it takes time. A place that puts this up so openly really seemed confident in its food.

Inside, the restaurant was arranged as separate rooms, each with its own number.

White porcelain jars, mother-of-pearl cabinets, and folding screens placed throughout preserved the distinct charm of a hanok. Inside each room, tables were set up for a cozy meal against a folding-screen backdrop. Another principles board hung on the hallway wall, and slippers were neatly prepared in every room, showing how much care had gone into everything.
Handmade Tofu Hot Pot Menu and Ordering

The menu was broadly divided into signature meal dishes for two or more people, individual handmade tofu dishes, reservation courses, and seasonal specialties. Main dishes such as Gamnamu handmade tofu hot pot and handmade tofu kimchi hot pot (doenbigi, soybean pulp) were ₩17,000 each, while reservation courses ranged from the Basic Table Setting at ₩35,000 to the Sura Table Setting at ₩52,000.

Every table had a tablet, so ordering was easy—great! They were also running a review event: leave a photo review and you can choose a soy milk latte, a tasting portion of white tofu, or a handmade tofu snack for free. Worth keeping in mind if you visit.
Gamnamu Handmade Tofu Hot Pot and Charcoal-Grilled Spicy Pork
The Gamnamu handmade tofu hot pot we chose arrived!! Wow, the pot was packed with enoki mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, bok choy, and big pieces of tofu, and it looked filling before I had even taken a bite.

I scooped up a spoonful of broth and found it mild, with a subtle depth that kept making me want another sip.

The dumplings in the hot pot seemed to be made with tofu and vegetables, and the more I chewed, the more I loved their nutty flavor!

There was plenty of ginseng in it, too, which added its aroma and flavor to the broth. The clean, mild character that is so distinctive of handmade tofu hot pot was completely intact.

The basic side dishes were generous, too, right? There were nine dishes filling the table: dressed acorn jelly, tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), sweet pumpkin salad, green-onion kimchi, napa cabbage kimchi, assorted seasoned vegetables, zucchini fritters, and more. Paired with the handmade tofu dishes, it was a seriously filling meal!

Before the hot pot came out, a soft tofu starter arrived. I took a little with a spoon, and it was so nutty and smooth that I was genuinely surprised—it was delicious! Then came the handmade tofu charcoal-grilled spicy pork stir-fry! Tender pork, nicely stir-fried in a sweet-and-spicy sauce, was served with soft fresh tofu, and the fire-kissed pork was so good.

When I lifted the tofu with my chopsticks, it was springy on the outside and softly curd-like inside—the perfect texture. It really made me think handmade tofu is different. One bite with spicy pork on top of the tofu was such a good combination. What I especially liked was that if you ran short on tofu, you could have more without an extra charge! The turmeric rice served alongside was memorable, too. The yellow grains were fluffy and separate, lightly infused with turmeric aroma, so they went perfectly with the hot-pot broth.
Even Free Soybean Pulp
There was free soybean pulp in a refrigerator by the entrance. Since it is rich in dietary fiber and said to lower cholesterol, I thought it would be nice to take some home and use it for stew or pancakes.

If you want to enjoy carefully prepared handmade tofu dishes in a hanok atmosphere, I highly recommend Jeungpyeong Son Dubu Gamnamujip!

This was a meal where I could see and taste their principle of using 100% domestic soybeans. If you are looking for handmade tofu at a great Jeungpyeong restaurant, do stop by! You will not regret it^^
