Its new dessert, Maneulinjularatdanyang (garlic-shaped ice cream), comes in banana, melon and strawberry at 10,000 won each, and all three were ordered and eaten at a rooftop seat with espresso poured over the top. The sherbet-textured ice cream only looks like garlic, making JB Coffee a good fit for anyone after an offbeat dessert in Danyang, Korea's garlic city.

Danyang Heukmaneul Nurungji Dakgangjeong is a black garlic dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) shop inside Danyang Gugyeong Market in Chungbuk. Two boxes of the double black garlic flavor (20,000 won each) and two bottles of black garlic makgeolli (10,000 won) were taken away and eaten 6 hours later, and the chicken was still crisp rather than soggy, which the writer's parents especially enjoyed. A good pick in Danyang for a local specialty gift or a late-night snack back at your accommodation.
