Sunday mother-daughter lunch, eggplant doenjang bowl: Hyangtaek

Hyangtaek Daebong Branch is a tidy Korean restaurant in Daebong-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu, near Gyeongbuk Uni Hospital Station on Line 2. The writer visited for Sunday lunch with her daughter and shared mackerel gondre rice (14,000 won) and eggplant doenjang rice bowl (13,000 won), served with gonjjaru gim (crispy laver), gungchae jangajji (pickled stem lettuce), jeotgal (salted seafood), and doenjang soup. Her doubts about mackerel and gondre together vanished after the first bite — a warm meal she'd happily return to with family.
