Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Toegye Branch is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant in Toegye-dong, Chuncheon, near Namchuncheon Humancia Complex 1. On a weekday evening after work, two people shared the Jeongseong mixed katsu set (₩13,900) and the Triple mixed katsu set (₩14,900) for ₩28,800, eating thick, juicy cutlets whose red cross-section the restaurant explains as myoglobin, not undercooking. With last order at 9:30pm, Jeongseong Katsu is a relaxed choice for crispy, tender tonkatsu even after a late finish at work.

Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch is a tonkatsu (Japanese pork cutlet) restaurant in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon, near Kangwon National University Hospital. Three generations (the writer, the writer's health-conscious mother and young daughter) shared the Jeongseong mixed katsu set and the cold soba with hirekatsu (pork fillet cutlet) set. The mother liked the light, non-greasy frying and the daughter enjoyed the tender hirekatsu. Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch pleased every age at the table.

Weekend katsu lunch in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon: hirekatsu at Jeongseong

Jeongseong Katsu Chuncheon Hyoja Branch (정성카츠 춘천효자점) is a Japanese-style katsu restaurant in Hyoja-dong, Chuncheon, near the back gate of Kangwon National University. For a weekend lunch the writer ordered the hirekatsu (pork fillet cutlet) set, the Jeongseong mixed katsu set and fish cake udon, and enjoyed the pink fillet, the loin with a good balance of fat and the bonito-based udon broth. With a pleasant dining room and generous portions, Jeongseong Katsu delivered a filling meal well worth the money.

Chuncheon mak guksu at ₩8,600, soy vs spicy bowls: Hyeondae Memil

Hyeondae Memil is a fusion buckwheat restaurant near Namchuncheon Station in Chuncheon, Gangwon. We ordered the signature soy sauce mak guksu (cold buckwheat noodles) for 8,600 won, the bibim mak guksu (spicy mixed buckwheat noodles) for 8,600 won and the signature truffle potato pancake for 16,600 won, switching between the mild soy sauce bowl and the spicy one with a pancake that was crisp outside and soft inside. With gentle seasoning and a modern interior, Hyeondae Memil made a satisfying meal for a date or a stop on a Chuncheon trip.
