Sokcho snow crab restaurant with seasonal squid sashimi: Hanggu Hwareo

Hanggu Hwareo (항구활어) is an ocean-view snow crab and raw fish restaurant in Building S of Daepo Port Fish Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. Around 6pm on a Saturday, a couple ordered the snow crab D course, which included corn cheese and kimchi pancake, sea squirt, abalone, a taste of seasonal squid sashimi, rockfish, flatfish and amberjack sashimi, one snow crab, crab shell fried rice and spicy fish stew. The price at Hanggu Hwareo felt a bit high at first, but the spread was good enough that it did not feel wasted at all.

Sokcho restaurant for a first-time skate breakfast: Jungang Sanghoe

Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe is a Korean restaurant next to Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, serving steamed skate and squid as its main dishes. Trying steamed skate for the first time, the writer and her husband arrived around 10:30 AM, ordered the Pro Steamed Skate (45.0) and corn noodles (3.0), and quickly finished a bowl of rice thanks to the tender skate and spicy sauce. For a hearty meal on a Sokcho trip instead of the usual picks, Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe's steamed skate is recommended.

Pohang crab restaurant when Yeongdeok is out: bakdal set, Gallilli

Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang is a second-generation snow crab and sashimi restaurant that has run for over 30 years in Jukdo Market, Pohang. On day two of a summer vacation, the writer visited around 6pm on a weekend and ordered the bakdal crab set for two because the Yeongdeok crab set was unavailable. The meal ran from a taste of abalone porridge through side dishes, blanched seafood, clam and bean sprout soup, three kinds of sashimi, bakdal crab and fried rice. With meat packed right into the claws, bakdal crab at Gallilli is the pick for anyone after a crab with a high meat yield.
