On a Friday after work, the writer and her husband wrapped salad bar ingredients into rice-paper rolls, mixed katsuo and spicy mushroom broths for shabu-shabu, and finished with self-serve porridge. With wide table spacing and a kids' play area, it's well suited to family gatherings.
