Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is a Korean restaurant in the Haksapyeong Sundubu Village in Sokcho, Gangwon, where a third generation now makes the soft tofu. After riding the Seoraksan Cable Car up to Gwongeumseong Fortress and coming back down, the writer returned to Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu for jjamppong seafood sundubu at 17,000 won, wild greens bibimbap at 13,000 won and abai squid sausage at 15,000 won, served with 9 side dishes. A hot bowl of sundubu here is exactly what settles the stomach after a hike.

Baegya Coffee is a large bakery café on the coastal road at Sageunjin Beach in Gangneung, right next to Gyeongpodae, with three floors plus a fourth-floor rooftop. On a late-summer trip, a third-floor window seat at Baegya Coffee paired an egg tart, krungji (crispy croissant chips) and a croissant with an iced americano (5,500 won) and a butterscotch shot latte (6,800 won), followed by ocean-view photos on the terrace stairs.
