Sokcho seafood restaurant crab and sashimi set: Sinhaeburi Hoejip

While traveling in Sokcho with my mother, I looked for a place where we could have both snow crab and sashimi. At Sinhaeburi Hoejip (신해불이횟집) beside Daepo Port, we ordered the snow crab and sashimi set for two, and the portions were generous from the side dishes through the spicy fish stew. My mother enjoyed the snow crab too, and she said she was satisfied even in the car on our way back.

Where is Sinhaeburi Hoejip, and are parking and pickup available?

The address is 37 Daepohang-gil, Sokcho-si, Gangwon State, South Korea. We drove there. Parking was available in front of the restaurant, and the original information said it provides parking support at Daepo No. 1 Public Parking Lot when the lot is full.

It also says there is pickup service throughout Sokcho. We did not use it, but it was useful information to keep in mind when traveling without a car.

The hours listed in the original post are 11:30 AM to 10 PM daily, with last orders at 9 PM. Reservations can be made by phone or Naver, and there was a notice of a 5% discount after making a Naver reservation and paying more than ₩100,000. Takeout and Wi-Fi are available, and the restrooms are separate for men and women. Corkage is free except for alcohol that is also sold at the restaurant.

What were the seating and atmosphere like during my visit?

The exterior was neat, and I liked the wooden tables outside. However, it was raining that day, so we gave up on sitting outside and went in.

The tables inside were fairly spacious. It was quiet when we arrived between lunch and dinner, but many tables were occupied by the time we finished our meal, even though it was a weekday.

What were the price and contents of the snow crab and sashimi set for two?

The menu was fairly simple. Other nearby tables were having the snow crab and sashimi set too, and we ordered the set for two for ₩150,000.

After we ordered, side dishes kept arriving and the table quickly filled up. At first, I thought we could finish everything, so I asked for the maeuntang (spicy fish stew) to be prepared right away, but the amount laid out was more than I expected.

Which assorted sashimi and side dishes stood out?

The mulhoe (cold spicy raw-fish soup) was cool, spicy, tangy, and lightly sweet, which suited my taste well.

The assorted hoe (sliced raw fish) felt like a large amount for two people, and the slices were thick. That day, it included halibut, flathead mullet, amberjack, and flounder.

The halibut was good, but I especially remember the pleasantly chewy, nutty flavor of the flathead mullet. I also liked the springy texture of the flounder. Even as dishes we had eaten were cleared away, there was hardly any empty space on the table.

The perilla leaves had a strong aroma, making them good for wrapping the raw fish. The fried kabocha squash, which I like, was served warm as well.

The steamed scallops arrived while still steaming. They were warm and pleasantly sweet, so I kept reaching for them even as I was getting full.

Was the snow crab easy to eat, with plenty of meat?

By the time the snow crab arrived, I was already quite full. Still, it had plenty of meat and was prepared to make it easy to eat, so I kept eating it.

I carefully picked out the crab meat. My mother, who had wanted to eat snow crab on this trip, enjoyed it too.

There was plenty of tomalley inside the crab shell too. I wanted fried rice, but it was disappointing to give it up because I was too full.

Could two people finish the spicy fish stew as well?

The spicy fish stew had plenty of fish meat too. The broth was clean, spicy, and warming, and I enjoyed it. I thought that even just the spicy fish stew with rice would be filling.

Even though both my mother and I tend to eat well, we could not finish the set. I was disappointed to leave food that we had enjoyed. Considering the snow crab, thick slices of raw fish, various side dishes, and spicy fish stew, I was satisfied with the price. My mother enjoyed the meal, so it remains memorable as a meal from our trip together.
