Filling Donkatsu Gwangju Cheomdan Direct Store is a pork cutlet (donkatsu) restaurant on the 2nd floor of the IBC Knowledge Center in Cheomdan, Buk-gu, Gwangju. A spicy-katsu-loving mom, her cheese-katsu-loving older child and a 20-month-old shared a half spicy katsu, a whole cheese katsu and a shrimp-loaded rosé pasta, and the spicy katsu topped with Cheongyang chili peppers was pleasantly, deliciously hot. Filling Donkatsu is a solid pick for families with kids looking for spicy katsu in Gwangju.

Cold jellyfish jokbal to go in Cheomdan, Gwangju: Kkankkanhan

Kkankkanhan Jokbal Main Branch (깐깐한족발 본점) is a charcoal-grilled jokbal (braised pig's trotters) restaurant in the Cheomdan eating alley in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. For her first takeout order there, the writer brought her mother a half-and-half set of cold jokbal with jellyfish and charcoal-grilled bossam (boiled pork). She loved the free flying fish roe rice, the chewy jokbal and the nose-tingling mustard sauce, though the bossam was a little dry that day. For cold jokbal in Cheomdan when summer heat kills your appetite, takeout from Kkankkanhan Jokbal Main Branch is a good choice.

Wood-fired pizza in Sangmu, Gwangju: cast-iron seafood pasta, Bueokgan

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch (부엌간 상무점) is a vintage European-style brunch restaurant on Seogwangju-ro in Sangmu, Seo-gu, Gwangju. With two kids, the writer ordered seafood tomato pasta served in a cast-iron pan, abalone cream risotto and a basil margherita wood-fired pizza. The 7-year-old finished a whole plate of the pasta alone, and the chewy wood-fired pizza dough was a particular highlight. With a parking lot behind the building, high chairs and kids' tableware, Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is a good pick for a family meal or a date.

Sangmu, Gwangju burger revisit: Cream Cheese Chicken at Downtown

Downtown Gwangju Sangmu is a handmade burger restaurant on Uncheon-ro in the Sangmu district of Seo-gu, Gwangju. The blogger first visited on the restaurant's second day open, waited over an hour and left disappointed, then returned after a long break for the Downtowner Burger set, the Cream Cheese Chicken and jumbo mozzarella sticks (3,800 won). The Downtown Gwangju Sangmu revisit was so satisfying that staying away so long felt like a real shame.
