Magongnaru Station Western restaurant, city-view late lunch: Romaok

Romaok Magok is a Western-style restaurant on the 3rd floor of LG Arts Center Seoul on Magokjungang-ro in Gangseo, Seoul, near Magongnaru Station. On a booked weekday late lunch, the writer got a complimentary pine nut caprese salad and bread, then had abalone innards pasta, masala sous vide pork jowl and a grapefruit ade, and was impressed by the wood-and-stone interior, floor-to-ceiling city views and generously spaced tables. Romaok Magok is a little pricey, but for the food and atmosphere it is a very satisfying Magongnaru pick.

Sokcho sashimi takeout reordered next day when parents joined: Hoega

Hoega (회가) is a takeout and delivery-only sashimi shop on Beonyeong-ro 43beon-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon. During a Sokcho trip, the writer took a small mixed sashimi platter and one bowl of mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) with abalone and sea squirt back to the lodging, then ordered from Hoega again the next day when the parents' group joined. Verdict: for good-value, thick-cut live fish sashimi at your accommodation, Hoega takeout is the pick.

Boryeong craft beer pub to end a Muchangpo trip: Daecheon Brewery

Daecheon Brewery (Daecheon Brewery Craft Beer Brewery & Pizza Pub) is a craft beer brewery and pizza pub at 65-71 Daeryangbiseonjae-gil in Boryeong, Chungnam. To wrap up day 2 of a Boryeong and Muchangpo trip, the driver had an iced americano while the others drank Boryeong Mud Lager and Daecheon Golden Ale with burrata cheese salad and Diablo shrimp pizza. Daecheon Brewery earns five stars for both atmosphere and beer and is a definite return stop on the next Daecheon trip.
