Jongno 3-ga Korean BBQ at opening, aged belly and fresh wasabi: Cham

Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch (참돼짓간 종로본점) is a pork belly Korean BBQ restaurant on the first floor of the Piccadilly CGV building, right outside Jongno 3-ga Station in Jongno, Seoul. The writer came for a lunch meetup right at opening and had the signature aged pork belly, grilled by staff and eaten with salt, fresh wasabi, pickled wild garlic leaves and scallion salad, plus a side of steamed egg. With its station-side location and good ventilation, Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch is a solid pick for after-work gatherings and team dinners.

Ikseon-dong bakery after a hanok walk: rice chestnut loaf, Munhwa

Munhwa Bakery is a bakery on Donhwamun-ro near Jongno 3-ga Station, on the Ikseon-dong bread-pilgrimage route in Jongno, Seoul. A weekday afternoon visit meant walking straight in with no wait, and the two picks were garlic bread and rice chestnut bread — the garlic bread crisp outside and moist inside with a gentle garlic aroma, the rice chestnut bread chewy and packed with diced chestnut. Munhwa Bakery sells only bread baked that same day and gives the leftovers to people in need, which made the visit feel even better.
