Bucheon Korean set meal, after-work soy crab: Gim Myeongju

Gim Myeongju Tteuranchae Bapsang Bucheon Main Branch is a Korean set meal restaurant serving stone pot rice, tucked inside the Jak-dong food alley in Bucheon, Gyeonggi. On a weekday after work, the writer walked over from Bucheon Stadium Station with a friend, ordered the Tteuranchae Bapsang set for 2 plus a single order of ganjang gejang (soy-marinated crab), and finished every bite of the meaty crab, cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), geotjeori (fresh kimchi) and nurungji sungnyung (scorched-rice tea). Choosing the soy-marinated crab over the charcoal-grilled pork turned out to be the best call of the night.

Kkachiul Station seolleongtang brunch with rice in the soup: Hanchon

Hanchon Seolleongtang Bucheon Kkachiul Station Branch (한촌설렁탕 까치울역점) is a seolleongtang (ox bone soup) restaurant near Kkachiul Station in Jakdong, Ojeong-gu, Bucheon, open daily from 8am. After a hospital appointment ran late, the writer came in around 10:30am for brunch and ordered two servings of seolleongtang with the rice already mixed in. The broth was rich and nutty without being salty, and the well-ripened kimchi made it easy to finish a free extra bowl of rice. Hanchon Seolleongtang is a good choice when you want a comforting, easy-on-the-stomach bowl of soup in the morning.

Tiny Dot is a roastery café in Hagik-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, known as a great coffee spot run by an owner who takes coffee seriously. On a weekday during a holiday break, a visit with a friend brought a millstone matcha latte made with oat milk and less sugar, a hand drip coffee from strongly acidic beans the owner recommended, and an oven-baked croffle, plus a look at a coffee grinder more than 100 years old. Tiny Dot is a café worth recommending in Hagik-dong for a day when you want to relax over a really good drink.

Sundae soup restaurant near Juan Station for a day-off lunch: Suraok

Suraok Sundaeguk Juan Station Branch (수라옥순대국 주안역점) is a sundaeguk (Korean blood sausage soup) restaurant near Exit 6 of Juan Station in Michuhol, Incheon. On a weekday off work, the writer and a friend ordered the regular sundae soup, the spicy sundae soup and the ₩4,000 add-on set, and the meat-filled blood sausage, the clean broth and the self-serve kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) stood out. For a gukbap (rice soup) lunch near Juan Station, Suraok Sundaeguk is worth recommending.
