Spicy clam hot pot after a Han River run in Yeouido: Gaetbeol-ui Jogae

Gaetbeol-ui Jogae Yeouido Main Branch is a clam hot pot and seafood restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Geukdong VIP Building near National Assembly Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Two people came in after a run along the Han River and ordered the giant clam hot pot with shabu-shabu in the spicy broth, plus kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and a Pepsi Zero, for 85,000 won in total; wrapping clams in melted cheese and the free yeolmu (young radish) bibimbap at the self-bar were the highlights. Gaetbeol-ui Jogae suits two people who want hot broth and a protein refuel in one sitting.

Yeoksam eel restaurant on a weekday 7:30pm reservation: Unagiwa

Unagiwa is an eel rice bowl restaurant a 5-minute walk from Exit 7 of Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. On a weekday reservation at 7:30pm, two orders of hitsumabushi (grilled eel over rice) at 38,000 won each were eaten the way Unagiwa instructs, in four steps: the eel on its own, then with scallions and wasabi, then as ochazuke, and finally with plum sauce. Nothing tasted heavy and both bowls were scraped clean, so Unagiwa is worth a return visit with family.
