Gwanghwamun gomtang lunch: clear hanwoo beef shank broth at Wongiok

Wongiok Gwanghwamun is a Korean restaurant specializing in hanwoo (Korean beef) hot pot and gomtang (clear beef bone broth soup), on the basement level of the D-Palace Building in Jongno, Seoul. Over lunch with a grad school classmate, the writer had the regular gomtang (15,000 won), served in a steel ttukbaegi with clear broth and a generous amount of tender beef, aron-sadae (beef shank) and tripe, plus spicy stir-fried octopus and a minari (water dropwort) octopus pancake on the side. For a clear, savory bowl of hanwoo gomtang near Gwanghwamun, Wongiok Gwanghwamun does not disappoint.
