Hongdae gomtang restaurant for a weeknight dinner for three: Anok
Anok is a hanok Korean restaurant in an alley off Hongik-ro in Hongdae, Seoul, fronted by a tiled roof and earthen walls. On a weekday evening three of us ordered clear gomtang (beef bone soup) at 13,000 won, water-based Pyongyang naengmyeon (buckwheat cold noodles) at 14,000 won and seasoned braised ox tail, alternating between the light soup, the mild noodle broth and the glossy sauce. Anok gets both the setting and the food right, and it suits a hangover cure or a quiet dinner conversation equally well.
