Yangyang barbecue restaurant lunch with meat pot rice: Yeoyejeong

What lunch did we have with our child during our Yangyang trip?

As we take family trips to Yangyang and Sokcho every year, I have recently been seeking out local restaurants. This time, we had lunch with our child at Yeoyejeong (여여정), a barbecue restaurant in Seo-myeon, Yangyang-gun.

On family trips, choosing dishes that both children and adults can eat is always a consideration. Yeoyejeong had pot rice and naengmyeon as well as galbi, so we could each choose what we wanted.

How far was it from Naksan Beach, and what was the atmosphere like?

It was about a 10-minute drive from near Naksan Beach. It had a familiar atmosphere that was a little like a woodland villa or home, and reminded me of an old-fashioned garden restaurant.

I came with my child this time, but marinated galbi was the signature dish, so I thought it would also be nice to bring my parents.

We went as soon as it opened for a meal that was both breakfast and lunch. Even though it was weekday lunchtime, there were many reserved tables and diners, and it looked to me as though there were more regulars than tourists.

Are there lunch options besides grilled meat?

The signature dishes were marinated galbi and fresh galbi, with pork jowl, pork belly, and pork tail also available. There was also pot rice and naengmyeon for lunch.

For our child, we ordered meat pot rice served with seasoned pork. My spouse and I chose meat naengmyeon, which came with meat and naengmyeon, for the hot weather.

Was it easy to dine with a child, and how were the side dishes?

They provided tableware for our child, and there was also a high chair. Those were helpful details when dining out with a child.

The side dishes were neatly served. The kimchi had a familiar, home-made taste, and the seasoned cucumber went well with the naengmyeon. The gondre namul (Korean thistle greens) was tender and fragrant, which stayed with me.

How was the ₩13,000 meat pot rice for a child?

Our child’s pot rice arrived first. It came with sweet-and-savory seasoned galbi, chives, and bean sprout soup in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot).

The galbi was tender, with no unpleasant smell. It was not spicy and slightly sweet, so our child ate it well. The bean sprout soup was also mild and lightly seasoned, making it good to share with a child.

At the time of our visit, the pot rice set with meat and soup was ₩13,000. Even we adults found it tasty, and I felt the price was reasonable for the set.

Was the meat naengmyeon filling enough for a meal?

The naengmyeon my spouse and I ordered had a cool broth that suited the hot weather. With the accompanying meat, it was a filling meal.

The naengmyeon portion was generous, and many other diners were eating it that day as well. We liked both the meat and naengmyeon, so I would like to return for dinner next time and try grilling the meat.

Wrapping the meat with the naengmyeon reminded me of yukssam naengmyeon (naengmyeon served with meat). As I enjoyed the cool dish, before I knew it I had finished the bowl.

The fresh geotjeori kimchi and seasoned chives served alongside were fragrant and good to eat with the meal.

I especially liked the combination of galbi and naengmyeon. I would like to stop by for another meal on a future Yangyang or Naksan trip.
