Korean BBQ platter by cut and silkworm pupa soup in Ulsan: Daewol

Daewol Charcoal Barbecue is a newly opened charcoal grill restaurant in Dal-dong, Nam-gu, Ulsan, right behind Goodmorning Hospital, serving Jirye black pork from Gimcheon. On a Friday evening reservation the Jirye black pork platter (five-layer pork belly, pork neck and shoulder) was grilled in that order with an extra portion of galmaegisal (skirt meat), and silkworm pupa soup and cold boiled pork came as standard. Each cut eats differently — firm, tender, then chewy — so the platter is the safe pick on a first visit to Daewol Charcoal Barbecue.

Mugeo-dong kimchi jjigae restaurant in Ulsan: ramyeon and sujebi

Jeontong Sigol Chueotang Ulsan Mugeo Branch is a budget-friendly Korean restaurant in Mugeo-dong, by the back gate of Ulsan University in Nam-gu, Ulsan. One table order covered kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) for two, pork stir-fry on a hot plate for two, dumpling soup and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup), and the kimchi jjigae arrived loaded with ramyeon noodles and thin sujebi (hand-torn dough flakes). At 5,000 to 9,000 won a dish, Jeontong Sigol Chueotang is a solid pick for a filling Korean meal.
