Gangneung soft tofu restaurant with corn makgeolli: Saimdang Bueok

Saimdang Bueok is a Korean set meal restaurant on Jukheon-gil near Ojukheon in Gangneung, Gangwon, known for choedang sundubu (Gangneung-style soft tofu). Three friends ordered the Saimdang table at 19,000 won per person with choedang sundubu and a bottle of Saimdang corn makgeolli, refilled the kimchi three times, and cleared the grilled flounder and hairtail in no time. For a home-cooked Korean spread on a Gangneung sightseeing route, Saimdang Bueok is an easy, reliable stop.

Gongdeok private-room restaurant with sea bass pot rice: Usu Lunch C

Usu Gongdeok is an all-private-room hanwoo (Korean beef) course restaurant on basement level 2 of the Lotte Castle President mall by Exit 2 of Gongdeok Station in Mapo, Seoul. For a companion's birthday lunch, the writer chose the Lunch C course at 79,000 won per person: beef-and-egg porridge, three bite-sized dishes, abalone five-color gardenia noodles, a sea bass pot rice set with hanwoo seaweed soup, 80g of 1++ striploin, and corn ice cream for dessert. With its own air conditioning in each room, high chairs, 3 hours of free parking, and free corkage, Usu suits family gatherings and meet-the-parents meals.
