Hoka Hoka Gwangmyeong Main Branch is a gyukatsu and ramen Japanese restaurant on Ori-ro in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi, near Cheolsan Station. Walking in around 5pm without a reservation, the writer had gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet), chicken breast cold ramen and the Hoka Hoka crispy roll, and noticed thoughtful touches like a sweet potato tempura appetizer before the meal and hair bands on the tables. Six months after moving to Gwangmyeong, the writer gives Hoka Hoka Gwangmyeong Main Branch a full 5 stars.

Gwangmyeong salon Nano Heal clinic for sun-roughened hair: Maple Hair

Maple Hair Gwangmyeong Sageori Station Branch is a nature-themed hair salon at Gwangmyeong Sageori in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi. For rough hair that summer UV and home care couldn't fix, the writer had Maple Hair's 4-step Nano Heal clinic, which fills hair with protein, over tea, snacks and small talk. Verdict: the rough hair came out stronger and glossy again, and the writer was delighted.

Danyang market bakery with caramel-like black garlic salt bread

Black Garlic Salt Bread (흑마늘소금빵) is a takeout-only salt bread shop in an alley near the entrance of Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. On a Sunday visit at 11:30am, the original and garlic salt breads were sampled at the tasting counter beside the register before a mixed set was chosen, and the black garlic salt bread (4,200 won) tasted less of garlic than of deep, caramel-like sweetness. Black Garlic Salt Bread makes a good dessert stop on a Danyang trip after garlic sundae (Korean sausage) and garlic dumplings.

Danyang bakery garlic bread after a 40-minute August wait: Danppang

Danppang Bakery is a garlic bread bakery in Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. On a weekday during the August summer holiday week, the line at Danppang Bakery took 30 to 40 minutes, and the pickup was two boxes, each holding 2 black garlic breads, 1 cream cheese and 1 baguette. The bread was best straight from the oven in the car, and still good reheated in an air fryer the next morning.
