Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is a cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) specialist at Dongtan Namgwangjang in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, where people queue for the spicy broth and generous portions. On a lunch date with his wife, the writer ordered 2 basic-flavor cockle jjamppong and 1 plate of fried dumplings; the plate came with about 10 dumplings, so they were full without tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). Verdict: for two people, 2 bowls of cockle jjamppong plus 1 plate of dumplings at Bultina is plenty, and arriving a little before the lunch peak is the way to go.

Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch is a pho restaurant on the first floor of the Richian shopping arcade at Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a lunch date, the writer and his wife got in within 10 minutes behind 3 waiting parties and ordered two bowls of brisket and tendon pho plus an assorted fried platter. The meat was generous and the room quiet enough to talk. If the noodles feel a little scant, tell the staff, and cilantro is brought right away on request. Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch is a calm, meaty pho lunch for couples.

Post-run gorgonzola pork cutlet in Dongtan Mokdong: Insaeng Donkatsu

Insaeng Donkatsu Dongtan Mokdong Branch is a pork cutlet restaurant in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. After a long weekend-morning training run with a trail running crew, the writer ordered the wasabi cream cheese pork cutlet and the gorgonzola pork cutlet to share: the wasabi came through as aroma only, so it was easy to eat, and the gorgonzola arrived piled generously with cheese. Insaeng Donkatsu passes both as a filling post-run meal and as a Dongtan pork cutlet spot in its own right.
