Ilwon-dong tonkatsu restaurant served with pink salt: Sioldon Ilwon

Sioldon Ilwon Branch is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant in the Ilwon-dong restaurant alley near Samsung Seoul Hospital in Gangnam, Seoul. The order was tenderloin cutlet (₩14,900), cheese cutlet (₩12,900) and tomato curry udon (₩9,000), each tasted plain first and then with Himalayan pink salt, mustard and wasabi. Sioldon fries pork aged 72 hours to order, so the cutlets stay moist, and adding the udon makes it a filling one-person meal.

Guro izakaya set no. 5 with oden nabe and soju: Robatayaki Sodam

Robatayaki Sodam Guro Digital Complex Branch is an izakaya in Guro, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Guro Digital Complex Station. Visiting with her boyfriend, the writer ordered the hungry set for two, no. 5 — small sashimi, oden nabe (fish cake hot pot) and mixed skewers — for 67,000 won, plus Kirin draft beer at 7,000 won and two bottles of soju. Between the aged sashimi, skewers torched at the table and the Japanese-style mood, Robatayaki Sodam is worth a return trip for drinks in Guro.
