Last seat before closing at Tonka, an Amsa-dong tonkatsu restaurant

Tonka is a Japanese-style tonkatsu restaurant in Gangdong, Seoul, a five-minute walk from Amsa Station exit 4. On a weekday evening just before closing, two parties were waiting ahead and both limited-quantity items had already sold out, so the signature tonkatsu (loin + tenderloin) at 15,000 won was the order. Tonka's solo chef, who spent 10 years at Jeongdon, rests the pork before serving — good enough that the writer's husband was won over in one bite.
