Sokcho tofu restaurant, mild sundubu for gestational diabetes: Jinsol

Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is a soft tofu restaurant in Haksapyeong Sundubu Village in Sokcho, Gangwon. The writer, who watches her diet for gestational diabetes, chose the mild chodang sundubu (soft tofu made with seawater brine, ₩11,000), while her husband had the seafood-packed jjamppong haemul sundubu (₩15,000), and she confirmed a self-serve side dish bar, a free parking lot and opening at 7:30 am. Jinsol Halmeoni Sundubu is a good Sokcho soft tofu restaurant for sharing a gentle, non-spicy meal and a spicy seafood broth at the same table.

Ulsanbawi-view Sokcho café with baby chairs & pudding: Cafe Neorae

Cafe Neorae (카페너래) is a large bakery café with Ulsanbawi views in Haksapyeong Soft Tofu Village, Sokcho, Gangwon. Ulsanbawi rock was visible from every seat, not just by the windows. The writer enjoyed Neorae Pudding topped with biji crunch (a crunchy soy-pulp topping) alongside a nutty iced Americano, and Cafe Neorae also has 3 baby chairs, a diaper changing table and a large parking lot. If you want the Ulsanbawi view, Neorae Pudding and baby-friendly facilities all in one place, Cafe Neorae is a good fit.

Sokcho market stall's squid sundae, microwaved at the stay: Ddogi-ne

Ddogi-ne Twigim (서민갑부 똑이네 튀김) is a squid sundae and fried food shop on the first floor of the Jungang Market arcade in Sokcho, Gangwon. The writer took away one nurungji squid sundae (stuffed squid with a scorched-rice crust) for 15,000 won to eat alongside dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken), microwaved it back at the lodging, and the Ddogi-ne Twigim squid sundae was still crisp outside and chewy inside. If you plan to eat it at your lodging the same day you buy it, Ddogi-ne Twigim's nurungji squid sundae is a satisfying Sokcho Jungang Market snack.

Sokcho market honey garlic thigh chicken, soft next day: Seomin Gapbu

Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip (속초시장닭강정) is a dakgangjeong (sweet glazed fried chicken) shop with a main branch and a second branch on Chicken Alley in Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market (Jungang Market), Sokcho, Gangwon, where you can choose 100% Korean-raised thigh meat. With no wait one evening, the writer took away garlic dakgangjeong with 100% thigh in honey sweet flavor (₩28,000 on the menu board) to eat at the guesthouse; it was crisp outside and juicy inside, and the leftovers were still tender eaten cold the next day. Thigh costs ₩3,000 more than boneless, but at Seomin Gapbu Sijang Dakjip it is worth choosing.

Mountain-view café in Dobong: churro-like chimney bread at Uisagye

Uisagye (우이사계) is a chimney bread café on Uicheon-ro in Dobong, Seoul, right in front of Uicheon stream. On a weekday lunchtime visit with her husband, the writer had cinnamon chimney bread (₩5,800), an iced americano (₩4,500) and a hot decaf café latte (₩5,800), ₩16,100 in total, at a big second-floor window seat looking out at the mountains and Uicheon stream. Uisagye's churro-like cinnamon chimney bread was mild enough for a husband who isn't fond of cinnamon, and the nutty coffee and open view were satisfying, though the café has no parking lot of its own.
