Yeouido izakaya at the 5pm opening: sunset view and lamb rack, Nani

Nani Yeouido Branch is an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) on the 3rd floor of the S-TRENUE building, right at Exit 3 of Yeouido Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Two people arrived at the 5pm opening and shared a 3-bone lamb shoulder rack (₩43,000) and butter garlic king prawns (₩33,000) with added garlic rice (₩2,000), and the city view outside the window got even better as the sun set toward the end of the meal. Verdict: the lamb shoulder rack and butter garlic king prawns at Nani Yeouido Branch were both delicious with no gamey smell, making them an easy pairing to recommend.

Seolleung izakaya: sashimi and ramyeon off a staff-written menu, Sakai

Sakai is a sushi sakaba (a Japanese-style pub where sushi is the drinking snack) near Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Two people shared a sashimi moriawase (assorted sashimi, ₩36,000), akami and red seabream nigiri, and seafood ramyeon (₩18,000) with non-alcoholic drinks; the melt-in-the-mouth sashimi and the deep seafood broth of the ramyeon stood out. Sakai is a good pick for casual sushi with the feel of a local izakaya in Japan.

Sadang pizza pub for three women: beer novice's IPA and Raymond Set

Raymond Isu Branch is a pizza and craft beer pub near Isu Station in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, serving giant pizza slices and draft craft beer. On a weekday evening, three women shared the Signature Raymond Set (₩54,900, for 2–4 people) with an IPA craft draft beer and a Coke Zero, and even the writer, who rarely drinks beer, enjoyed the IPA's aroma and flavor. The Raymond Set left all three full, making Raymond Isu Branch a great pick for pizza and beer with a group.

Yangjae Station Korean pub for four: pot-sized pork gomtang, Yangjaeok

Yangjaeok is a Korean pub in Gangnam, Seoul, about a 3-minute walk from Yangjae Station (Line 3 and Sinbundang Line). Its signature juansang (a shared drinking-table spread) brings spicy stir-fried pork, bossam (boiled pork slices), tofu kimchi and zucchini jeon (pan-fried zucchini) to one table. Four diners ordered the juansang (₩37,000), a large spicy pork gomtang (₩16,000) and 6 big dumplings (₩9,500), and the large gomtang came almost pot-sized, easily enough for all four. For a filling Korean group meal or company dinner near Yangjae Station, Yangjaeok's juansang combination is a strong fit.
