Grilled salt-crusted shrimp near Yeoksam Station: Sokcho Ojingeo

Sokcho Ojingeo Eosijang Yeoksam Branch is a sashimi and seafood restaurant a 10-minute walk from Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. The writer ordered the autumn salt-grilled jumbo shrimp (daeha sogeumguí, ₩45,000) for 19 shrimp, peeled and ate the tails, then reheated the heads in the pan over low heat as a beer snack. Salty and savory even without adding the butter-grilled option, this is worth a trip if you're after shrimp in season.

Solo katsu meal near Konkuk Univ.: cheese katsu plus katsu, Kosi

Kosi Konkuk University Branch is a katsu and udon restaurant a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Konkuk University Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. On this visit, the writer ordered bukkake udon and cheese katsu plus a 6,000-won extra katsu, tasting thick chewy noodles, melting cheese, and a clean plain katsu side by side. Tablet ordering makes solo dining easy, and going right at opening avoids the 15:00–17:00 break time.
