Hanam Misa braised pollock, school-holiday lunch with kids: Appa Jjim

Appa Jjim Hanam Main Branch is a braised pollock (kodari-jjim) restaurant on Misa-daero in Hanam, Gyeonggi, right on the way to Starfield Hanam. Before the school holidays ended, the writer stopped for lunch with the kids and ordered a small siraegi kodari-jjim (braised pollock with dried radish greens), hyangmi pot rice, crispy seafood pancake and kids' kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup). The bones come out already removed and the dining room is wide, so lunch with children at Appa Jjim was easy.

Gangnam hair salon mid-length build perm, kid-friendly wait: Park Jun

Park Jun Beauty Lab Gangnam Branch is a hair salon on the 2nd floor of a building on Gangnam-daero 110-gil, walkable from both Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station. Hair left dry and brittle by frequent coloring and perming was treated with a Ribbon (repair) setting perm at 230,000 won plus a 22,000 won length surcharge, and the mid-length build perm took about 3 hours after a consultation with designer Youngmin. Hair that had been too rough to run fingers through finished with springy curl down to the ends, and the wait was easy enough to spend with a child, photo booth pictures included.

Kid-friendly Gangnam pasta restaurant, 5pm weekday bar seats: Brivit

Brivit Gangnam Station is a pink-facade pasta and steak restaurant on Gangnam-daero 102-gil, near Sinnonhyeon Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Arriving with a child just after 5pm on a weekday without a reservation, the writer was seated at the bar table and ordered the Hop Hop! Rabbit Pasta for 19,900 won and the Brivit Steak for 37,900 won, finished tableside with a pour of Aligot cheese. Both the look and the flavour beat expectations, so the next visit at Brivit Gangnam Station will be a booked terrace table.

Choco fudge cheesecake and chewy cookie, Gangnam café: Something About

Something About Coffee is a large three-floor dessert café in the alley behind the CGV at Gangnam Station in Seoul. After having dinner near Gangnam Station with her child, the writer crossed the street to Something About Coffee and ordered chocolate fudge cheesecake, a chewy cookie, a green grape mojito and a black sesame cream latte, enjoying them slowly at a second-floor window seat on a rainy evening. Both the desserts and the drinks were good enough that Something About Coffee is the café she will think of the next time she craves something sweet.
