Gangneung malatang with corn noodles and beef brisket: Tanghua Kungfu
Tanghua Kungfu Malatang Gangneung Ponam Branch is a self-bar malatang (spicy Chinese hot pot soup) restaurant on Gangneungdae-ro in Ponam-dong, Gangneung. Diners fill their own bowl at the self-bar and pay by weight at the counter, choosing a spice level from 0 (white broth) to 3; two bowls were tried here, one with corn noodles, beef brisket, lotus root and quail eggs, the other with napa cabbage, enoki mushrooms, potato and tofu skin. The rich peanut sauce balanced the mala spice well, and a large parking lot behind the building makes Tanghua Kungfu Malatang easy to reach by car.
