On a weekday lunch with a friend, the writer ordered old-style bulgogi for two plus squid stir-fry, at 300g per person for around 20,000-something won. The writer rated Dongchuwon Bulgogi as great value, with a self-serve side dish bar, friendly staff and solo seats, and found it suits both family gatherings and eating alone.

Levia Hair Bucheon Branch is a large hair salon of about 100 pyeong on the 3rd floor of City Office on Gilju-ro, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon. Torn between a filler perm and a drop cut, the writer chose the men's drop cut because his bangs were too short. Because his dyed hair was damaged, the side down perm ran for only 15 minutes and the top was left unpressed. Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang Yeongjong Sky City Branch (한마음정육식당) is a butcher-shop-style Korean BBQ restaurant in Yeongjong Sky City, Incheon, with a playroom and kids' zone. On a Saturday at 5pm the writer ordered the 300g half-cow beef set (43,000 won), nurungji, or scorched rice (3,000 won), and mom's fried rice (5,000 won). The half-cow set and nurungji were satisfying, but the peas and pea skins in the fried rice were a letdown. Verdict: Hanmaeum Jeonguk Sikdang is a good-value choice for a family meal out with kids.

On a Friday evening, two friends shared 2 bowls of Chodang soft tofu jjamppong rice (spicy seafood soup with soft tofu, served with rice) and a mini tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). For anyone looking for a restaurant in Yeongjong where you can eat your fill of eel with your dog, Jangsodam is a satisfying choice.

Songdo bakery movie snack: fig almond crisp bread, Tomoru Bakery

Tomoru Bakery is a bakery on Haedoji-ro near Songdo Central Park in Incheon, open daily from 8:30am to 9:30pm. On a weekday evening before a movie, the visit turned up milk bread and dinner rolls to keep at home plus a fig and almond crisp bread to eat at the theater, and that crisp bread was good enough to replace popcorn for the whole film.
