Guwol-dong sashimi restaurant: grilled shad wish for Dad, Veteran

Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch is a sashimi restaurant in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, near Rodeo Street and Gwollidan-gil. The writer took their parents there for the grilled jeoneo (gizzard shad) Dad had been craving for weeks, along with barley mullet for 33,000 won, spicy fish stew for 8,000 won, unlimited self-serve kimchi jeon (kimchi pancake) and dessert. Even Dad, who rarely praises food, couldn't stop raving about the grilled shad, making Veteran General Fish Market a great-value sashimi spot.

Late-night burger joint in Yeouido: BLT chicken vs cheese, Dumburger

Dumburger Yeouido is a handmade burger restaurant near IFC Mall in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, between Saetgang Station and Yeouido Station. After a Han River drive, the writer and a friend stopped by around 10pm on a weekday and shared a BLT chicken burger and a BLT cheeseburger. They parked in a nearby paid public lot because Dumburger Yeouido has no parking of its own. Thanks to its big, filling burgers and self-serve drinks, Dumburger Yeouido made a satisfying late-night meal.

Haeundae egg tart bakery: 3 desserts for the ride home, Low & Sweet

Low & Sweet Bakery (로우앤스윗 베이커리) is a bakery café on Haeri-dan-gil in Haeundae, Busan, known for its egg tarts. On a Busan trip with a younger sibling, the writer stopped by around 11am on a Saturday, took away an egg tart, a chocolate canelé, a lemon madeleine and an iced americano, and ate them right away on the way home to Incheon. The moist, not-too-sweet egg tart at Low & Sweet Bakery pairs well with coffee, making it a good takeaway stop on the last day of a Busan trip.

Indian restaurant in Songdo: chicken wrapped in naan, Manokamana

Manokamana Triple Street Branch 2 is an Indian curry restaurant in the basement food court of Building C at Triple Street in Songdo, Yeonsu, Incheon. The blogger ordered Manokamana Set B for 2, choosing plain naan, butter chicken curry and plain lassi, and found that wrapping the chicken in naan and dipping it in the curry tasted best. For a filling Indian curry meal during shopping or a date in Songdo, Manokamana Triple Street Branch 2 is a good choice.

Nonhyeon, Incheon hangover ramen, Fukuoka style: Hongdae Gureume

Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch is a Japanese ramen and sushi restaurant on the 2nd floor of the Iflex Building in Nonhyeon-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon. Two of us came for a hangover meal and ordered the Gureume Ramen Set (Fukuoka style) and the Fukuoka-style flavored egg ramen with extra chashu; the rich, bone-broth-like soup and the large inari sushi (fried tofu pouch rice) stood out. At Hongdae Gureume Incheon Nonhyeon Branch, the set is the better pick over a single bowl.

Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is a duck jumulleok restaurant on Manisan-ro in Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa, Incheon, where the duck is pre-grilled over charcoal. On a family summer trip the writer booked a 1:30pm slot through Naver, ordered duck jumulleok for three plus two fried rice, refilled the sweet potato mattang four times while waiting, and cleared the smoky duck in 15 minutes. The key at Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is leaving a third of the duck for the fried rice.
