Pocheon bakery café's new annex & vanilla bean latte: Geurine Oasis

Geurine Oasis (그리네 오아시스) is a large bakery café and dog-friendly café beside Gomori Reservoir in Soheul-eup, Pocheon. The writer returned to Geurine Oasis on an autumn weekday after a long break to explore the new annex, rooftop and outdoor terrace, and had an iced honey yuja tea (8,000 won), a vanilla bean latte (8,000 won) and a mocha bun (6,000 won). Drinks mostly cost 7,000–8,000 won, which is on the pricey side, but the reservoir-view outdoor seats and reusable cups made Geurine Oasis a satisfying autumn outing café.

Sokcho restaurant for octopus stew on the way home: Deungdae Gotgan

Deungdae Gotgan (등대곳간) is an octopus restaurant on Yeongnanghaean-gil, facing Deungdae Beach in Sokcho, Gangwon, with sea views through the 2nd-floor windows. As a last breakfast before heading home from a Sokcho and Goseong trip, the writer ordered jjageul nakji (braised spicy octopus stew) for two with udon noodles, giant fried shrimp and rice, and despite its red color the sauce was not spicy and sat easily on an empty stomach. Deungdae Gotgan's jjageul nakji is an excellent early-morning meal with a view of the sea.

Rainy-morning Ulsanbawi-view café in Sokcho: corn latte, Cafe Neorae

Cafe Neorae is a large bakery café with Ulsanbawi Rock views on Wonamhaksapyeong-gil in Sokcho, Gangwon, using the 2nd and 3rd floors above the Yetgoeul sundubu (soft tofu stew) restaurant on the 1st floor. On an early weekday morning after two straight days of rain, a couple ordered a Sua Da Einspänner and a Chodang sweet corn latte (7,500 won each) plus a chestnut loaf (5,500 won). Both drinks were generous and delicious, but the bread wasn't to their taste. Ulsanbawi Rock was mostly hidden, yet the floor-to-ceiling windows, mountain views and photo spots made Cafe Neorae a satisfying stop on a Sokcho trip.

Byeollae shabu kalguksu full at 7pm on a weekday: Onjeongban

Onjeongban Shabu Kalguksu Namyangju Byeollae Main Branch is a budget-friendly shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant in Byeollae, Namyangju, with prices starting at 11,000 won per person. On a weekday visit at 7pm the restaurant was full, and the order was the handmade rolled dumpling hot pot for two (26,000 won) in clear broth, followed by unlimited gondeure rice, kalguksu noodles and fried rice — filling enough that the 7,000-won extra meat was never needed. Free slushies, coffee and ppeongtwigi (puffed rice snack) after the meal make Onjeongban an easy choice for couples, parents and families with kids.
