Jongno Indian restaurant with standout butter naan: Meono Kkameona

In short

Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch is an Indian curry restaurant in Jongno, Seoul. I tried chicken masala, chicken korma, three kinds of naan, and rice; the spices were mild and easy to enjoy. Verdict: the moist, gently sweet butter naan was the standout.

Indian curry dishes at Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch

There are plenty of curry places in Daehangno, but I found this spot while looking for proper Indian curry. From curry and naan to rice and noodle dishes, there was lots to choose from depending on your taste—such a great Indian curry restaurant in Daehangno! My boyfriend said it was the most his style among the Daehangno curry places.

A calm atmosphere for a relaxed meal

The restaurant had a clean atmosphere. It did not have an overly strong exotic feel typical of Indian curry restaurants, and the calm setting actually made it more comfortable for a meal.

Neatly set tableware

The tableware was neatly set at every table too, which gave it the feel of an upscale restaurant.

Table QR ordering guide

To order, scan the QR code at the table to view the menu and place your order. If QR ordering is difficult, though, it is fine to tell a staff member directly. The older guests at the next table asked the staff to recommend something delicious, and they were helped to choose dishes suited to their tastes~

Two curries, three naans, and one rice

There were many curries organized by ingredients such as chicken, lamb, vegetables, and shrimp, along with set menus. There were also dishes I do not usually see at curry restaurants, including curry pasta, stir-fried noodles, and fried rice, so browsing the menu was pretty fun.

Indian curry menu selection

Before the food arrived, they brought over pickles, jalapeños, and onions.

How spicy would the chicken masala be?

The menu marked it with two chilies, so I expected a little heat, but it was much less spicy than I thought. The spice aroma was not strong either, so I think even those who find the typical fragrance of curry overwhelming could enjoy it comfortably. There were generous chunks of chicken too, and it was even better with naan and rice.

The mild flavor of chicken korma

This curry contains cashews and cream, so it is much milder than the masala. The finely ground cashews gave it a nutty, smooth feel. I prefer bolder flavors, so I liked the masala more than the korma, but if you enjoy mild curry, korma will probably suit your taste better.

Three kinds of naan with curry

I tried each of the three kinds of naan we ordered to eat with the curry.

Clean and simple garlic naan

It was a clean, simple naan that did not leave anything on your hands, making it great with curry. The garlic aroma was not strong, so this garlic naan felt almost like a basic naan!

My personal top recommendation: butter naan

I usually prefer rice to naan, but this butter naan was so moist with a gentle sweetness that I kept reaching for it. The naan itself was so delicious that it was good even without curry. It was tasty enough to make me want to split it like focaccia and turn it into a sandwich, so butter naan is my personal top recommendation.

Sweet, dessert-like cheese naan

I had never seen cheese naan at a curry restaurant before, so I ordered it to try. Like Gorgonzola pizza, it has sweet honey brushed over the cheese. With curry, you first taste the curry, then the sweetness really comes through at the end. It has a dessert-like feel, so I recommend it if you want to try a different kind of naan!

Finishing with plain rice

As someone firmly on team rice, I finished by piling plenty of curry onto plain rice. The naan was delicious too, but rice is still the best for me! Still, I cannot forget that butter naan...

It was nice to be able to try such a variety, from curry and naan to rice. The spices are not strong, making this an easy choice even for first-time Indian curry eaters. If you are craving Indian curry in Daehangno and want to try a range of dishes, go go to Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch.
