Rainy Songdo window café: matcha cake & Geisha drip, Standard Square

Standard Square is a cookie and coffee café on Keonbensia-daero in Songdo, Yeonsu, Incheon, known for its blue exterior and floor-to-ceiling windows. On a rainy day, the new matcha scoop cake, an Ethiopia Wesi Tima drip coffee and a café latte came to 22,000 won in total, and the bittersweet matcha with sweet cream, the bright drip coffee and the nutty latte were all satisfying. Standard Square is a Songdo café worth revisiting for dessert and coffee while watching the rain through its big windows.

Guwol-dong sashimi spot with kids: family set, live octopus, Veteran

Veteran General Fish Market Incheon Guwol Branch is a live-fish sashimi restaurant in Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu, Incheon, near Yesulhoegwan Station. A family with kids ordered the 88,000 won family set plus 25,000 won live octopus (sannakji) and ate sashimi, sushi, tempura, grilled fish and spicy fish stew (maeuntang), paying 120,000 won in total with drinks. Veteran General Fish Market was packed to the last seat, but its spacious hall and self-serve jeon (Korean pancakes) make it a good Guwol-dong pick for family dinners and group gatherings.

Songdo weeknight steakhouse for couples: burrata salad at Salt Steak

Salt Steak is a steak and pasta restaurant in the Songdo Central Park Prugio City shopping arcade in Yeonsu, Incheon. After their son's first exam, a husband and wife booked a weeknight dinner at Salt Steak and ordered the ghee butter petit tender, chili con carne rigatoni and burrata cheese salad, with ghee poured from a jug to sear the outside of the steak as the standout moment. Salt Steak's cozy, Christmas-party atmosphere makes it a good spot for a quiet date for two.

Incheon bulgogi restaurant for 5: split two grills, Dongchuwon

Dongchuwon Bulgogi (동추원불고기) is a Seoul-style bulgogi restaurant in Hagik-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon. On a holiday visit from the American daughter the family once hosted on a homestay, a family of five shared 3 old-style bulgogi sets plus glass noodles and a bowl of rice for ₩77,700 in total, then finished with dessert naengmyeon (cold noodles) and ice cream. Dongchuwon Bulgogi serves generous portions that suit a family meal, but groups of 5 or more are better off splitting across two grills.

Ogong Donkatsu is a pork cutlet (donkatsu) restaurant on the first floor of Smart Square in Songdo, Yeonsu, Incheon. A family of three ordered a large Ogong cutlet, a cheese cutlet and a fish cutlet for 39,000 won in total and enjoyed thick meat, a thin, crispy coating and generous portions. Ogong Donkatsu is worth recommending as a good-value Songdo cutlet spot for eating your fill at a fair price, rather than a high-end katsu house.

Songdo fry shop takeout with microwaved cheese sticks: Angry Potato

Angry Potato Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo Branch is a fries and chicken snack shop on the B1 level of Hyundai Premium Outlet Songdo in Yeonsu, Incheon. On the way home from work, the writer picked up a Deep Crunch Box, 2 Chili's cheese sticks and a chicken mayo rice bowl for 37,000 won as a family dinner, and the Chili's cheese sticks, reheated in the microwave for 30 seconds, were the kids' favorite. Angry Potato is a handy takeout stop for kids' snacks or beer snacks at home.

Incheon abalone restaurant for a husband's stamina meal: Jeonbokchon

Jeonbokchon (전복촌) is a Korean restaurant specializing in abalone dishes near Yesulhoegwan Station in Guwol-dong, Incheon. After a satisfying first visit with a friend, the writer drove back to treat her husband to a restorative meal with the abalone set for 2 (₩78,000). The course ran from abalone porridge with innards through raw abalone, steamed abalone, bulgogi and abalone seaweed soup to plum tea, and her husband gave it a thumbs-up. Jeonbokchon is a good pick for couples who want to share a quiet, nourishing meal in a private room.

Songdo pasta spot, 3rd revisit: shrimp rosé & aglio e olio, Cenacolo

Cenacolo Artfore is an Italian restaurant on the 2nd floor of Artfore Building C in Songdo, Yeonsu, Incheon. On a third revisit, the day after the rain, the writer sat by the window and ordered shrimp rosé pasta, aglio e olio, the soup of the day (sweet potato soup) and a lemonade for 58,000 won in total. With its rich shrimp flavor, the shrimp rosé pasta is the one dish to order at Cenacolo Artfore.

Songdo steakhouse family dinner: wood-fire wagyu flap at Salt Steak

Salt Steak is a wood-fire steak restaurant on the ground floor of Songdo Central Park Prugio City in Songdo, Yeonsu, Incheon, across from Central Park Artpore. A family with kids arrived at 6 p.m. and paid 116,500 won for a wagyu chuck flap tail steak, white ragu tagliatelle, chorizo alla chitarra and perilla oil carrot rapée, and the kids, who usually struggle with tough meat, ate the steak happily because it was tender. For a stylish steak dinner with kids in Songdo, Salt Steak is worth booking ahead.

Songdo sashimi and live octopus with kids: Songdo Jonghap Eosijang

Songdo Jonghap Eosijang is a live-fish sashimi restaurant on the ground floor of a building in the Songdo cram-school district of Yeonsu, Incheon. The kids wanted sashimi, so we went around 7:30 pm and had sashimi for two, steamed egg and grilled saury as complimentary sides, a 7,500 won seafood ramyeon and sannakji tangtangi (chopped live octopus). Songdo Jonghap Eosijang is a good-value spot for enjoying fresh sashimi with children without breaking the bank.
