Jocheon, Jeju pork noodle shop after an airport letdown: Myeonjumak

Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch (면주막 제주본점) is a black pork noodle restaurant on Beonyeong-ro in Jocheon-eup, Jeju. After being disappointed by pork noodles near Jeju Airport, the writer booked on Naver and came with her husband and child. They ordered jumbo black pork gogi-guksu (pork noodle soup), jumbo pork bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) and a half portion of dombe-gogi (sliced boiled pork), and used the baby chairs and the microwave for baby food. Verdict: Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch gets the taste, the space and the care for kids right, making it a great family restaurant in east Jeju.

Korean BBQ in Nohyeong, Jeju to celebrate a marathon finish: Jeju Udae

Jeju Udae (제주 우대 노형본점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant on Noyeon-ro in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju, known for straw-fire smoked beef ribs (udae galbi) and Jeju black pork belly. To celebrate a husband finishing the full course of the Jeju International Tourism Marathon, the family ordered the beef rib + black pork set with 2 extra servings of black pork, and a child who rarely eats beef happily ate the beef ribs and the beef radish soup. With staff grilling, kids' chairs and refillable soup, Jeju Udae made for an easy family dinner out.

Aewol, Jeju hangover soup spot for a post-checkout lunch: Aewol Eomma

Aewol Eomma (애월엄마) is a haejangguk (Korean hangover soup) restaurant near Sineom Middle School in Aewol-eup, Jeju, open from 6am to 3pm. On the last day of a Jeju trip, the writer came with a child after an 11am checkout and had Aewol Eomma haejangguk, beef haejangguk and squid pancake for lunch; local residents and taxi drivers kept coming in, which convinced the writer it is a genuine local favorite. Aewol Eomma is a hearty, comfortable choice for the last meal of a Jeju trip.

Oedo, Jeju bakery tour with a bread-loving kid: Bakery Onyu

Bakery Onyu Jeju Oedo Branch is a family bakery in Oedo-dong, Jeju City, run by a Korean master baker with 46 years of experience together with the baker's son and daughter-in-law. A bread-loving mom and her bread-loving son bought Onyu Mammoth, a chocolate muffin, Jeju basalt rice bread, almond soboro (streusel bun) and a handmade raspberry choco pie to share by taste, and generous samples plus a private parking lot made browsing with a child easy. Bakery Onyu is well worth a stop on a Jeju bakery tour with kids.

Okonomiyaki restaurant at Incheon Terminal: family meal for 3 at Jojo

Jojo Lotte Department Store Incheon is an okonomiyaki and yakisoba restaurant in the basement 1 food court of Lotte Department Store Incheon, connected to Incheon Terminal Station in Michuhol, Incheon. The writer and their parents shared an okonomiyaki set (₩22,000), Jojo yakisoba (₩13,500) and shio yakisoba (₩14,000), and the parents, trying okonomiyaki for the first time, said it was really delicious. With weather-proof access and plenty of food court seating, Jojo is a solid pick for a family day out.

Jeju Dongmun Market oranda shop: yuzu-seaweed gifts for a babysitter

Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch (청춘이오란다 동문시장본점) is an oranda (crunchy puffed-grain clusters) and gwajul (traditional puffed-grain snack) shop tucked inside Dongmun Market in Jeju. On the last day of a Jeju trip, the writer tried samples with her child at Cheongchuni Oranda. She then picked yuzu and gamtae (Jeju seaweed) oranda for her mother and for her mother's friend who looks after the child, plus Udo peanut oranda to share with coworkers. Everyone who received the Cheongchuni Oranda gifts liked them, making it a safe, slightly different Jeju Dongmun Market gift.

Eoeum-ri Photo Studio is a photo studio for outdoor snaps and self-shoots along a stone-wall lane in Eoeum-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju. With a child who finds formal studio shoots hard, the family booked 2 snap shots and a 20-minute self-shoot for 60,000 won including the extra person fee; when the child got hot, the photographer added an indoor shot to make 3, and the prints were delivered home. Incheon Korean restaurant for Mom's birthday with cake: Jeonbokchon

Jeonbokchon (전복촌) is an abalone Korean set-meal restaurant in Namdong, Incheon, near Yesulhoegwan Station and Incheon City Hall Station, with mostly private-room seating. For Mom's birthday, the family ordered the abalone set for 4 plus a kid's pork cutlet and ate through a course from abalone porridge, boiled abalone and abalone sushi to seafood nurungji (scorched rice) soup, then lit the birthday cake candles and sang in the private room without worrying about other diners. Jeonbokchon works well for a parent's birthday meal, even with a child and someone who doesn't enjoy seafood at the table.

Songdo Korean restaurant with grilled mackerel for kids: Bomseol

Bomseol Songdo International City (봄설) is a Korean set-meal (hanjeongsik) restaurant on the first floor of S-Five City in Songdo, Yeonsu, Incheon. On a weekday evening, a parent, a second-grader and a friend shared three Bomseol Set meals (₩69,000). The child loved the grilled mackerel and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), while the adults favored the spicy marinated crab and the fried eggplant from the self-serve bar. Bomseol is a great fit for a get-together with a child, but it is popular, so a reservation is a must.

Juan hair salon for a cloud S-curl perm and heart bangs: Naple Hair

Gift-packed sushi to go at Moraenae Market, Incheon: 3 bags, Minyeong

Minyeong Hwareo Gongjang Moraenae Market Branch (민영활어공장 모래내시장점) is a takeout-only sushi shop inside Moraenae Market in Namdong, Incheon. A sushi-loving couple parked at Somang public parking lot and took out 4 packs (omakase sushi, raw salmon sushi and 2 packs of special assorted sushi as gifts), which the owner split into 3 shopping bags so each household could carry its own.
