Suncheon lunch: ₩14,500 special bone soup with dumplings, Namdareun

Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch is a Korean restaurant in Jorye-dong, Suncheon, serving gamjatang (pork bone stew) and haejangguk (hangover soup). Over lunch, the writer and their partner ordered the single-serving Namjatang (special) with added Namdareun dumplings for 14,500 won and a brisket kimchi hangover soup for 12,000 won, and enjoyed the tender pork and the rich broth that never felt heavy. Namdareun Gamjatang Suncheon Jorye branch is worth recommending when you need a filling lunch or a hangover meal.

Suncheon gopchang grill revisit, now spicier: Gwangju Seoul Gopchang

Gwangju Seoul Gopchang Suncheon is a direct-fire grilled gopchang (beef intestine) restaurant near Palma Gymnasium and Yeonhyang-dong in Suncheon. The writer, who had waited in line during the restaurant's early days, returned right at the 4pm opening on a Chuseok holiday weekend and ordered spicy grilled gopchang and gukbap (meat and rice soup): the spicy gopchang was noticeably hotter than on the first visit, and the mild gukbap tamed the heat well. For spice lovers, the spicy grilled gopchang and gukbap combo at Gwangju Seoul Gopchang Suncheon is still a satisfying choice.

Seolleung weekend eel rice bowl date with black tea ice cream: Manmok

Manmok is a Kanto-style eel rice bowl restaurant a 3–4 minute walk from Exit 2 of Seolleung Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Arriving right at opening for weekend lunch, we ordered two half-portion eel rice bowls at 26,000 won each with Ebisu draft beer at 9,000 won and Singha soda water, then split the matcha and black tea dessert ice creams. Manmok grills and steams Gochang freshwater eel the Kanto way, so the fat renders out and the last bite is as clean as the first.
