Korean BBQ near Yangjae Station for company dinners: Yanggyegok

Yanggyegok (양계옥) is a third-generation charcoal dakgalbi (grilled chicken), gomtang (chicken bone broth soup) and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant 1 minute on foot from Yangjae Station Exit 4 in Gangnam, Seoul. Near the end of lunchtime, the writer ordered 2 portions of salt dakgalbi, 1 portion of seasoned dakgalbi and a flying fish roe rice ball, which came with pre-grilled meat, 4 sauces and a complimentary chicken gomtang broth. With wide table spacing and a large dining hall, Yanggyegok is an especially good fit for company dinners.

Gangnam poke restaurant, steak poke with grilled tofu to go: Ola Poke

Ola Poke Gangnam is a poke restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, a 4-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 4 on basement level 1 of the Ssangyong Platinum building. The writer ordered the flat iron steak poke with an added grilled tofu salad and the recommended wasabi mayo sauce to go; the generous oat rice was very filling, and the tofu came out crisp outside and soft inside. With power outlets and phone stands, Ola Poke Gangnam is especially suited to Gangnam Station office workers eating solo or getting takeout.

Poi-dong gamjatang restaurant with a wasabi soy dip: Chomu Gamjatang

Chomu Gamjatang is a gamjatang (pork bone and potato stew) and pork bone soup restaurant on Nonhyeon-ro near Poi intersection in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, a 15-minute walk from Exit 2 of Yangjae Citizen's Forest Station. On a late weekday evening, a small gamjatang pot with fried rice made a generous meal without any add-ons, and the fresh cabbage kimchi (geotjeori) from Chomu Gamjatang's self-serve bar was refilled again and again. Verdict: Chomu Gamjatang serves big, clean-tasting pork spine meat that comes off the bone with chopsticks alone.

Gyodae gimbap to go: olive oil egg and unrefined-sugar chicken, Halls

Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) is a Korean snack bar (bunsik) in Seocho-dong, Seoul, a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Gyodae Station. The writer ordered the Jindo Scallion Tuna Gimbap + Dakgangjeong Set and the Double Cheese Egg Gimbap to go. Both the black-rice gimbap (seaweed rice roll), packed with filling, and the thin-skinned, crispy dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) were satisfying. With plenty of bar seating for solo diners, Halls Gimbap Main Branch is worth recommending for a filling meal near Gyodae Station.
