Ttukbangjip is a Korean restaurant in Sajik-dong, Cheongju, near Musimcheon Stream that serves just one dish: charcoal-grilled gochujang pork. A couple visited at noon on a weekday and ordered the 200g serving for 14,000 won, which came with cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) and barley tea, and the smoky charcoal aroma tasted just like the food at the five-day markets of their childhood. Ttukbangjip is only open from 11am to 3pm, so the timing is tricky, but it is well worth a second visit.

Anmin Cheongju is a charcoal-grill pork BBQ restaurant in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju, where staff grill the meat at your table for you. On a weekday 7pm reservation with a young child, the order was the Anmin half whole-pig set, Mashitte soy ramen and sweet rice nurungji soup (scorched-rice soup), and Anmin Cheongju brought out a booster seat, kids' tableware and seaweed without being asked. Easy for a family dinner with kids and just as workable for a group or work dinner.

Sorori Sotbap Gagyeong Direct Branch is a pot rice (sotbap) restaurant in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju, right beside the Gagyeong Xi and Gagyeong I'Park apartment complexes. The writer picked up a younger cousin at Cheongju Express Bus Terminal and drove 10 minutes to arrive at 1:30 pm on a Saturday, ordering beef rib pot rice and fresh salmon buckwheat gimbap, and found the baby dishware in the Yupang sterilizer, the microwave and the large parking lot easy to use with a child. When parking near the terminal feels like too much trouble, Sorori Sotbap is a good place to drive to for a tidy Korean set meal.
