Cafe Mug was rebuilt on land that lost all of its landscaping trees in a 2013 wildfire, and to remember that history, Cafe Mug uses blackened, charred wood as the main material for its architecture and interior. The ceiling inside Cafe Mug is 9 m high, an outdoor water feature outside reflects the sky, and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) Cafe Mug floats soap bubbles in the outdoor area. Cafe Mug's indoor exhibition space hosts an ongoing series of exhibitions with emerging artists, and the cafe's large outdoor yard, where dogs are welcome, leads onto a dirt walking path and a lawn.
