Cheongju rice cake shop return gift set, 5 flavors tasted: Tteokmidang
In short
Tteokmidang (떡미당) is a rice cake shop in Biha-dong, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, next to Lotte Outlet, that specializes in return gift and custom rice cakes. The writer ordered Tteokmidang's 12-piece gift set No. 6 (21,600 won) by phone and tasted all five kinds: pumpkin injeolmi, dried persimmon chapssaltteok, whole red bean omegi, mini duteop-tteok and walnut baekryeoncho chapssaltteok. The rice cakes were chewy rather than dry and brightly colored, so Tteokmidang's gift set is worth a look for anyone after return gift rice cakes in Cheongju.

Taste matters with rice cakes, but when you give them as a gift you end up looking at the shape, the colors and the packaging too, right!? This time I tried Tteokmidang (떡미당), a Cheongju rice cake shop known for return gift rice cakes! A whole box of colorful, pretty rice cakes, and I was in a good mood from the moment I opened it ~ 😊
Tteokmidang location, hours and how to order
Tteokmidang is at 58 Jikji-daero 240beon-gil, Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk, on the first floor. It's open daily 07:00–16:00 and closed every Sunday. There's parking too!!

※ Tteokmidang has paused in-store retail sales for now, but they say orders are possible anytime, even small ones. If you call ahead about what you want to buy or reserve on the website, they'll have it ready for you!!
What kind of rice cake shop is Tteokmidang?
Located in Bihadong, Cheongju, Tteokmidang specializes in rice cakes for return gifts and for first birthdays, 100-day celebrations, weddings and other events. Right next to Lotte Outlet Cheongju!!!
They say they use good ingredients based on know-how going back to 1990 and make their rice cakes in a HACCP-certified facility, which made me trust them even more.

Return gift rice cakes are food you hand to someone else, so packaging and shape matter as much as taste, and Tteokmidang felt like it pays attention to those things too.
Inside Tteokmidang and the ordering process

This time I ordered my rice cakes through Tteokmidang, and I liked how kindly they guided me through the whole inquiry process. :)

In-store retail sales are paused for now, so if you want custom rice cakes, even a small purchase, or you're planning return gift rice cakes, just give them a call and go for it!!

Custom rice cakes, your own rice cake cake, gift sets and ibaji (food gifts sent to the in-laws' family) are all possible!
Rice cakes you can order at Tteokmidang

Besides return gift rice cakes, Tteokmidang can prepare a range of rice cakes for events and anniversaries: first-birthday and 100-day table rice cakes, rice cake cakes, songpyeon (half-moon stuffed rice cakes) and more.

For days with lots to prepare, like a 100-day or first birthday, there are also table rice cake sets with baekseolgi (steamed white rice cake), songpyeon, susu-patteok (red bean millet rice cake) and more all at once, which is good to know.

They say custom orders are fine to fit your budget or purpose, so it looks like a great pick for anyone looking for return gift rice cakes in Cheongju!!!
Tteokmidang chewy rice cake cakes and return gift sikhye

A chewy rice cake cake in this style is one of Tteokmidang's best sellers too :) And the return gift sikhye (sweet rice drink) next to the rice cakes is so tiny and cute, isn't it!?

The chewy rice cake cakes come at ₩55,000 and ₩65,000. These days a lot of people pick a rice cake cake like this over a regular cake for a parent's birthday or a kids' party~ There are many other kinds too, and when I browsed the website there was so much I wanted to eat~
Tteokmidang 12-piece gift set No. 6: contents and price

🎁 The Tteokmidang 12-piece gift set No. 6 I ordered this time is ₩21,600. The 12 pieces are made up like this.
- 🌿 3 pumpkin injeolmi (pumpkin rice cake coated in roasted soybean powder)
- 🍂 2 persimmon chapssaltteok (chewy rice cake with dried persimmon)
- 🫘 2 whole red bean omegi (Jeju-style rice cake with red beans)
- 🌰 2 mini dubeop (red bean and nut rice cake)
- 🌸 3 walnut baekryeoncho chapssaltteok (walnut chewy rice cake, pink from baekryeoncho cactus fruit)
- 🏷️ Free sticker

When I opened the box, every rice cake had a different color, so it looked pretty right away. From the yellow pumpkin injeolmi to the baekryeoncho-colored chapssaltteok, it was so colorful that I thought it would work well for handing out one by one as return gifts. 😊
How did the 5 rice cakes in gift set No. 6 taste?

The flavors in the Tteokmidang gift set differ a little from kind to kind, so it was fun to pick them out one by one. The gyeongdan (small rice balls) are so pretty haha. They taste good too.
- Pumpkin injeolmi: Nutty with a subtle pumpkin flavor, and the chewy injeolmi texture comes through well.
- Persimmon chapssaltteok: The sweetness of dried persimmon meets the chewy texture of chapssaltteok, so it's nice to eat like a dessert.
- Red bean omegi: You taste the sweet, nutty flavor of red beans, and personally I think people who like traditional rice cakes would enjoy it.
- Mini dubeop: Red beans and nuts together bring out a nuttier flavor the more you chew, and the size isn't overwhelming, so it's easy to eat one at a time. 😋
- Walnut baekryeoncho chapssaltteok: Walnuts inside the chewy chapssaltteok add a nutty flavor and a bit of crunch, and it was delicious.

By the way, they say the walnut baekryeoncho chapssaltteok can be swapped for white chapssaltteok if you like. That seems handy when you want the return gift colors to match the overall mood of the event.
Overall, the rice cakes were chewy, with nothing too dry or hard, and the colors were pretty too, so I think people would be happy with them as a gift :)
Verdict: is Tteokmidang good for return gift rice cakes in Cheongju?

Having tried the Tteokmidang gift set myself, each rice cake had a slightly different taste and texture, which made picking through them fun, and above all the pretty colors suited it as a gift.

If you're preparing rice cakes to share with lots of people, for a first birthday, 100-day celebration, wedding or other event, it's worth checking out for return gift rice cakes in Cheongju, and if you also need a full table of rice cakes, it would be good to ask about the first-birthday and 100-day table rice cakes too. If you're looking for return gift or custom rice cakes in Cheongju, I recommend Tteokmidang~ 😊
